Congratulations to the raiders

Too bad some of their posters gave up on them after three or four games ...take a lesson learned that you turds in the stands haven't a clue what you are crowing about ! Domination in playoffs thus far
So congrats to those kids and coaches to sticking to what works for them

It's like Novocain ! Give it time it always works ....

Good luck to my pals Seadog and Coonie even though you gave up on them after three or four games and disappeared from the boards like footsoldier after any loss ...

Sasha congrats to you as well you've always had their backs unlike clowndog I mean Coondog !! Ha ha ha
Go get em raiders !!!!

I haven't posted as much this season - time (new job); also hard to get excited for games like NG, LNC, and SC (although it is fun reminding the Rainclouds that they are mere upstarts and will be for a long time), not as much fun without Rulz ;), but have always been a Red Raider.

The best defense in school history?
Seadog,
Now you have been around a long time. You have (I assume seen) 87, 93, 99, 03, 08-09, 11-12 and 2015 defenses....and it's not even close. I do think P. Davis is one of the best DL we've ever had without question...and that sets us up nicely for the rest of the defense. Robinson has been really good this year too. I think that secondary is really good....even though we haven't seen a legit pass threat once this year; Don't want to jinx them even though I know Rocky Mount will be more run based.
I think the defense has played great....but we have to consider the last 2.5 months opponents.

I hear you, DeBeor. It's a tough question with many, yes or no, buts and ifs. In these days of prolific spread offenses where holding a team to a 2 or 3 scores is considered great D, our current defensive play is remarkable. Should we, as I expect we will, hold RM to one score or less, this Red Raider defense will be the best ever.

ok- fair enough. They are certainly proficient no matter who they've played. Besides Shelby and Clover, I've been happy with their play all year long.

I would not go so far to say the best ever, but I would agree one of the best and right there at the top. To say the best ever, you are overlooking 5 or 6 Red Raider teams in the 70s that gave up fewer points than this year. Mickey Lineberger himself played defense on 2 or 3 of those teams. He might argue the point himself. That is not to diminish this year's defense. They are very special in their own way, coming from where the team started.

That's what I'm saying. Some of you guys know as well as I do, several teams in the 70s, 87, 93,99 and 03 especially were lights out against competition that we just don't face anymore. From Kevin Mack, Ced Surrat, Jr. Hall, Tony Scott, Johnny White and Crezdon Butler to Brenton Bersin. It wouldn't take but one of those type players to line up across from this defense and torch it for 40. Not to diminish this year's guys. I love the defense, team and what they're doing. But, we have seen no special players this entire year outside of Lincolnton and Shelby. Shelby's was a LB and Lincolnton had a couple offense players that are legit too.

On a related note...I was so young around the 71-74 era....did they play against anyone of note that went on to big time college or pro ball? We know about Kevin Mack and the other guy from KM that Coach Big swears was better than him in late 70s, in 87 Shelby had Cedric Surratt, the kicker that went to UNC and Indy Colts plus plethora of others that went on to play in college plus Ashbrook's Frank Adams, Junior Hall and Darrell Armstrong amongst others, and Burns in 93 had 3 future NFL players on one team and maybe the best player on that team I don't know what happened to but know he didn't make it past HS.

Point is; our coaching base and consistency has been the same for a while...be it 40 years or the last 10. They know what they know then and now. The big difference is we have played nobody recently. I want to see this group get challenged again and see how they respond. I know they've gotten better, but just how much better? Those mountain teams would've gotten beaten by our 85-86 teams.

There is no mountain in Rocky Mount. The name came from the two young lovers who founded the town. Their first experience was making love on an old gravel road that is now the Main Street in Rocky Mount. That is how the town got its name "Rocky Mount" for you History Buffs!!!:)

Congrats to the midgets and all those die hard fans that cursed ML and gave up on daddy ball. Crest will be ready to keep kick your arse come next yr....
9496, the Raiders are an example of what functional families do. They may have differences but they forgive, forget, and are back together for Christmas. In dysfunctional families you chase your coach out of town. Lastly, if you could not beat the 2016 Raiders, then you want no part of the 2017 version of the Raiders.

Thanks, Shelby Lion. Congrats to your Golden Lions. A 4-peat is a remarkable achievement. Of course, next season - it's Katy barred the door. :p

Well I guess we have officially run out of weak 3A teams that will take us to the cleaners next week. The easiest path to a championship in football history! Seriously, what a turnaround this season. A big congratulations to Mickey Lineberger and staff for his first championship as a head coach. What a job the staff and players did this year. I guess everyone can now agree that we are the best 4 loss team in the state!
