Well, I may be a total dubmass, but did they initially say that Hydroxy worked to prevent Covid, or that it didn't work? The article was a bit too medically technical for a retired engineer.

As I saw elsewhere

They said it did not work, ( and that it would/could damage you otherwise)

but did not have the proof to back it up.

They rescinded their claim.

They didn't really say either and it wasn't a study. The authors of the article were given numbers on people who had been given hydroxy and those who had not and the outcomes of those cases. Those numbers showed that a higher percentage of the folks who were given hydroxy died versus those who didn't take it. It was obvious on first reading the analysis that due to the lack of any control over how sick the folks who got hydroxy were, you couldn't put a whole lot of stock in the analysis. The authors were aware of that problem and tried to adjust for it by only including in the analysis those patients who started treatment within 48 hours of diagnosis. Of course, a lot of those who took it lived in areas where you couldn't be tested unless you were pretty sick, so the bias is still there. And now some are questioning the accuracy of the numbers that were provided to the authors.

My wife takes it for auotimmune issues and many other people have for years. It is a fairly mild drug.

Speaking of “dog whistles”...cue all the naysayers of hydroxychloroquine.

There were people who died due to Plaquenil being denied for use by three countries and restricted in areas of this country.....completely due to political reason (Trump mentioned the drug). Atrocious.

The most egregious part of all this was the left hoping the drug didn't work because Trump mentioned it. That is evil...nothing more nothing less.

Some (several) on this board pulled against this drug working due to their psychotic leftist views...that can't be explained or justified. That was/is evil.
Heaven help those people....

This is an example what "Trump Derangement Syndrome" truly is. Otherwise normal, reasonable people have gotten wrapped up in their undying allegiance to Trump they become blathering deranged idiots, saying and believing the most ridiculous, baseless things because they've given their life and brain to this Cult.

Not a single poster on SPS ever "pulled against" the drug. Not one. Re-read the threads if you want and see that I'm right. We all want this drug or another drug to be the miracle cure and end the crisis. We aren't the caricatures that Fox News (and worse) tells you we are, and you would know this if you actually knew and interacted with liberals in real life.

Ironically, one of the articles posted in this thread (this one: https://www.statnews.com/2020/06/04...t-raised-safety-concerns-about-malaria-drugs/) includes this quote:

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, researchers reported the results of the first gold-standard clinical trial of hydroxycholoroquine in Covid-19, concluding that it did not prevent infections any better than placebo. Other clinical trials, including some looking at the drugs as treatments, are ongoing.
Here's hoping they retract that one too.

This has nothing to do with whether the drug work or not....Rooting against the drug working simply because Trump mentioned it is sick...sick...sick.

You say you didn't root against it....I and no one else believes you.

You are what you are.....

Yes, it would be hypothetically. Thankfully no one did that.

You say you didn't root against it....I and no one else believes you.

You don't have a clue. Not one fuckíng clue. Absolute derangement on display here.

2 serious questions:

1. Did the MSM not create a narrative that trump was pushing plaquenil as a cure?

2. And that plaquenil is dangerous?

I like how all the liberals think conservatives get their marching orders from Fox News, but what does that even mean? God help us that there's ONE right leaning news network vs. ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, and CNN. So liberals get their marching orders from EVERY OTHER NETWORK!

Liberals mistakenly think conservatives are given marching orders because liberals ARE given marching orders. Nothing scares liberals more than people (especially minorities) who think for themselves.

A local Dr had a husband and wife in the hospital with covid. The husband died. The wife asked him why she couldn't at least try Hydroxychloroquine and he ended up giving her some. The next morning she was sitting up in bed as if nothing had happened. I am just thankful it is working for some people. "Science" people will say that you can't be sure it was what healed her...and they are right. It could have been a miracle from God because we know He is still in the business of miracles. .The only problem with this is that people on that side of the argument don't normally believe in God and His power either...
It has been on the market for 50 plus years as an FDA approved safe drug.Liberals have only gone crazy about it ..attacking it..since Trump said it might work and that he "felt really good about it". Since then almost every liberal democrat has denounced it and trump for it. We live in a crazy time and I for one am thankful for Jesus and His forgiveness because in the end that hope is all each of us really has. Whether we be Democrat or Republican...liberal or conservative.

Doubting the drug works because there haven’t been any clinical trials that show it does isn’t the same as rooting for it not to work. Thinking a drug works because some politician said it does is insane.

I seriously don’t get it. I think the dude is a kook in many ways and am not a fan. But it cracks me up to see people that can only see issues through a partisan political lens and take a position based on what might score the most political points. Obviously both sides are guilty when the opposing party is in office, but this Hydroxy situation has got to be one of the most extreme examples I have seen.

Publishing a fake study to disapprove a politician is even more insane

Agree. It’s inexcusable they published a study that hadn’t been peer reviewed.

When was this? Was that a political issue too?

1998. If you look it up, it science by press conference. Countries cut vaccine funding and all kinds of political policies across the world reacted to his interviews in the news when it happened. It gave a spark to the anti-vaccine movement across the country.

Nice try but The Lancet got caught playing politics and you know it.

Uh, no. The company that supplied the data is being questioned. They appear to be a typical example of modern corporate culture, profit over quality. The Lancet is not at fault in any way.

Really this is just an example of how underreglated corporations have hollowed out every institution that used to work. We can't even get accurate hospital data anymore.

And it’s also inexcusable for a group of people to push an agenda that is completely false.

AGENDAS
1. Trump touted hydroxychloroquine as a cure. He did not.

2. That it is dangerous. If it is, it’s been dangerous for years before 2020.
