I don’t understand how pitchers can’t come in and throw strikes when you’re up by 8 runs.

Because they try to nibble. They don’t want to be the guy that comes in and gives up the 3 run homer or grand slam.

it’s a new day. With the training, bats and baseballs, guys can hit a 97 mph fastball 400 feet so Mr bull pen guy wants to work the edges.

Nothing wrong with the strategy. You can take some risks to steal outs with a 9 run lead. You can take a chance on Valencius getting through another inning. And you can take a chance on Maddox Webb being able to throw strikes. And if it doesn’t work, you bring in a premium arm to shut it down like we just did.

It is a damned shame we wasted Ben Davis tonight. Hopefully he can finish it with less than 20 pitches.

Pretty pitiful effort by Webb to not be able to find the strike zone. But this Game is too important to let the 8th inning continue to fall apart. You had to send in someone like Davis to shut down the nonsense.

If Frei makes a routine play, there is two outs and nobody on base. Game is over. Instead bases loaded no outs and we might lose Davis for tomorrow if he throws too many pitches

The only negative was that Davis had to throw 27 pitches in a game we led 10-1 in the 8th inning. Webb really let us down by not being able to find the strike zone
