Was out in full force again last night. AK looks to the sideline and then does this frantic run up to the line to call out the new play and 95% of the time it is....a simple handoff. Like clockwork.

In the first few games of each season some of those have worked. By and large once tape was out it is clear that defenses are keying on that. It's maddening that he keeps doing it. Called it out with near 100% accuracy again last night.

Combining that with his 2 yard Tight end immediate gets tripped up pass play and the almost all other long developing routes (that just dont work when line pressure or good secondaries who are physical--see UW second half and all yesterday), and we have a pattern of VERY LITTLE CREATIVITY.

We are blessed with the best qb rb wr group in a generation and we run nearly the same handful of plays every week that most fans (let alone those paid to stufy film) can see coming. It's just that run up to the line standard handoff that exemplifies KC's acumen. Shame a litte bit of creativity couldnt be implemented to use these weapons.

We have only
1 running play up the middle (1)
The TE 2 yard gain each way (2)
Slant left slant right (2)
Fade down each sideline (2)

Wheel route once for a TD never run before or after

Pass to Raymond vs Minn for 20 yards
Never run again ???

Guess the D has 3-4 base defensive sets and they are

1.) TD run
2.) QB keep for 20
3.) route down middle with no defender within 20 yards
4.) 3rd and 12 QB roll out to wide open WR on side line

WHAT DID I MISS ????

In a post that could be considered super negative trolling- it was absolutely nail hit on head and should be a classic.

Yep that was quite a surprise. We still really never try tooutscheme the more talented teams. Play pretty much straight up and telegraph wahts coming.

Why we have beat those teams we should and lost to those more talented.

Would be such a treat to see a lot of motion an dnot the same handful of plays.

Where the hell was the coach that ran 5 trick plays at Ohio st ? Think we scored on 2 of them Punt and KO throw backs to opposite side of field

Most hated play (too late growing balls) the TE throw back in the 2nd OT vs Michigan

After they missed FG we ran sideways 3 times for 1 total yard . Miss winning FG
They score TD , Rutgers comes out and runs trick play where TE had 5 blockers ahead of him with no one to block

Again.. and what do you know, d sniffed it out for no gain. Gotta lose this play . Will let it go now but irs gotta go as not only unsuccesful but shows such a limited creativity

can we at least get one and round to Sheffield the entire season rather than the fake panic and run to the line and hand off?

Our trick play will be a 2 yard rollout pass to the TE instead of a 1 yard pass.

illinois great creativity on that critical 4th down for the TD. Went for the blow. Direct snap then handoff to the QB then fake reverse. Rutgers hasnt seen something like that on O for 10 years. We do 0 trick plays, don’t return kickoffs, basically we need to be 7-14 points better than opponents and play perfect football to win with our coaching

I'd say it's more the D not sealing the edges, which is a common occurrence that I'm sure I'll. saw on the films, than any great creativity

We have a solid quarterback, Raymond at running back, strong Sheffield, and Duff arguably the most talented skill players we’ve had ever.

When I watch the games, not as a scouting defensive coordinator, I can still see almost every play that’s coming. There are maybe two players a game where I’m surprised by the call. KC is extremely unimaginative.

Stats that were put up This year were buying large, the byproduct of once in a generation compilation of skill talent. It’s been wasted with slow, developing long routes super questionable calls inside the 20, use of back up, running backs at the most inopportune times and in general, a just clear we’re going to call this play and have to try to beat you when you know it’s coming. The most Egrei, of course is the run up to the line play where the Illinois secondary run blitz not because it was called Wood because they saw the play and we’re well schooled and what was coming. I don’t care how many years he has had this year the play calling and the offensive management of all of this skill has been underwhelming.

Both coordinators stink.

KC, as with all OCs, is constrained by HC philosophy and playbook limitations. The boss sets the rules in every workplace and football is no different.

Predictability isn’t his fault. He’s doing what he’s being paid to do, which is to run a limited offense reliant only on execution practiced endlessly rather than on variety and creativity.

HC is capable of more than he shows. It’s the HC who sucks. Agree about Smith, however.

God I hate seeing the same nonsense weekend and week out.

KC is so unimaginative and has wasted some of the best skill players we’ve ever had especially Sheffield

Still doing it in the red zone!!!

should be banned
This is Version 2.0 of KC. Remember KC 1.0 when everyone would look to the sideline on EVERY SINGLE DAMN PLAY. Even defenses were "what is this crap? We can just gonna b!tch slap you anyway. Why delay it?"

The office has scored points this year – in spite of KC. That needs to be remembered. The fact that we scored points as a testament having an excellent running back receivers in quarterback. It could’ve been so much better.

GS has shown that the defense can be better and it was made worse by coaching.

We need to take a clue and realize that the offense can be made better by better coaching And end it with KC after this year

A game like today is why you should have given AJ Surace some PT all year long. AK was OFF.
Surace should have played at 35-3. GS is an ***. AK is your future for 1 game possibly 2 but I doubt it. Surace is part of your future for possibly next 3 yrs unless he transfers....get him some PLAYING TIME BEFORE NEXT YR

If anyone clamors about NIL I will point to Strong/Duff/Sheffield/Antwan as players who look like stars so its not about Talent. AK has even proven(outside of when pressured) he can be efficient. I look directly at the OC for not utilizing weapons properly and terrible playcalling especially for someone who gets paid VERY well. You have the talent and its wasted. I have never been a fan of his
