My favorite. About a year or so after the Saints fired him a reporter interviewed him. Asked what do you do these days. He said, “I don’t do a damn thing. And I don’t start till noon.”
I remember Dan Pastorini wearing a flak jacket and hook sliding in a rain storm against the Steelers. back in those days it was NBC for AFC, CBS for NFC and ABC for MNF and college. Probably the greatest era of football, that and 1985
He was about like the Yogi Berra of football.
One day, a reporter asked Coach Phillips if he worried about Earl’s durability with that kind of workload.
Bum didn’t miss a beat. He grinned and said:
“Aw hell, the ball ain’t that heavy.”
