I was 8 years old and at the beginning of my Husker fandom. I remember liking IM Hipp too but Jarvis sparked the imagination with the "Marvelous Jarvis" tagline that soon christened him. I remember having a baseball liner with that phrase on it that I believe I got at the Sears store near the Southroads mall. It was probably that touchdown tho of his against the sooners when he pointed back towards the defender chasing him that sealed the deal.. Of course Jarvis wasn't my last husker hero but to my formative football mind he was the first.. who was yours?

Brooke Berringer. Met him at The Buckle in Gateway Mall when I was 8. Then stood next to him at a urinal at Gateway Mall about 30 minutes later.

Johnny the jet, then had the experience of a lifetime. Walked in to Notre Dame stadium, with arms around each other just above the tunnel, sea of Red, with Johnny. We just looked around and he said "what a beautiful site". We shook hands and he walked off. Unreal

Calvin Jones. Met him when I was 12 years old. He was a cool dude and talked to me for about 20 minutes. He was very candid and answered all of my questions. He told me that Kansas State was the hardest hitting team he had ever faced at that time.

Dave Humm. We were both leftys. I got my picture taken with him at a breakfast at ICC around 1973 that was in the World Herald. I have an 8x10 glossy of it.

Eric Piatkowski. Not a football player, I know. But, I met him when I was 11. I was obsessed with basketball. He was signing autographs at a Dairy Queen in Norfolk. Pretty cool guy.

Turner Gill is the reason why I'm a Husker. First team I ever saw with a black QB.

Steve Taylor is why I love the Huskers to this day.
I saw Steve Taylor and Tommie at an alumni event. They were on stage taking questions. Someone asked Taylor about fan negativity and he went on about shutting out naysayers. They asked Tommie the same question and he said, "I never had problems with fans, I won." Looked like Taylor wanted to strangle him (in a fun way).

All the triplets.

Although we named our dog Jarvis Redwine, my first idol was "the triplets". I had this Scoring Explosion poster on my bedroom wall (along with Star Wars). There was the '83 schedule on it and white boxes to record the scores. And score we did. Never seen anything like that. We beat the defending champs (Penn State) 44-6 to start off the season.
