The Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE) is the largest purely physical spot gold and silver exchange in the world.
While the broader global wholesale spot market primarily operates over-the-counter (OTC) through the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA), the SGE stands as the largest dedicated, formalized exchange platform for physical spot precious metals trading.

Article from June 26th

"Gold fell roughly 5% this week to $4,044 per ounce — its sharpest weekly loss of 2026. Central bank gold buying in 2026 tells the opposite story. The World Gold Council’s annual Central Bank Gold Reserves Survey, published June 16, 2026 and covering 76 institutions, found that 89% of reserve managers expect global gold holdings to increase over the next 12 months. A record 45% plan to add to their own reserves. That is the most bullish result in the nine-year history of the report.

Two numbers. One week. They point in opposite directions. Understanding why tells you more about gold’s long-term trajectory than any single price chart."

  • Discrepancy in Volumes: While China officially reported buying only 10 tonnes of gold in specific months (such as May), Goldman Sachs models estimated actual acquisitions closer to 48 tonnes.
  • Off-Balance-Sheet Accumulation: Analysts note that China keeps thousands of tonnes 'off the books' in separate entities like the State Administration for Foreign Exchange (SAFE), only drip-feeding small amounts into official PBOC figures over time.
  • Motivations for De-Dollarization: This aggressive, covert stockpiling is tied to a multi-year structural strategy by Beijing to diversify reserves away from U.S. dollar assets and insulate against potential Western financial sanction

Trump hates renewable energy.

The Trump administration is planning to announce a 15% tariff and a series of minimum price floors on imported polysilicon and its derivatives as early as Thursday. This hybrid trade measure is the culmination of a year-long Section 232 national security investigation conducted by the Commerce Department into foreign imports of the material. Polysilicon is the foundational raw material required to manufacture semiconductors and solar panels.

Core Elements of the Trade Action
  • Hybrid System: Combines a mandatory price floor with standard tariffs.
  • 15% Tariff Rate: Applies directly to imported polysilicon derivative products.
  • Minimum Import Prices: Established for raw polysilicon, wafers, photovoltaic cells, and finished solar modules.
  • Targeting China: Designed explicitly to counter Chinese market dominance across global chip and green tech supply chains.
  • Domestic Beneficiaries: Protects major American-based producers including Hemlock Semiconductor and Wacker Chemie
Strategic Context and Offsets
The trade restrictions arrive as President Trump rebuilds global tariff mechanisms following recent legal challenges regarding emergency economic powers. Concurrently, the administration has been rolling back federal subsidies for renewable energy while seeking to accelerate domestic computer chip manufacturing.
To minimize immediate price shocks for tech manufacturers that rely heavily on imported materials, officials plan to introduce a temporary offset program. Under this program, financial relief from the levies will be tied directly to a manufacturer’s capital investments made inside the United States.

U.S. customer margin debt reached a record high of $1.53 trillion in June 2026, according to FINRA statistics. This represents a 7.9% increase from May 2026 and a massive 51.5% surge compared to the previous year, reflecting heavy investor leverage and speculation in the stock market.

It will be interesting how the fed handles this perfect storm.

A huge public margin debt

The largest holder and historical buyer of US treasuries, Japan in financial stress and inflation with the yen depressed by the carry trade vice prompting the first joint US and BOJ intervention to alleviate Japan having to sell US treasuries which was further pushing treasury rates up.

Did I mention that Japan is highly dependent on middle east oil?

But won't the Bretton Woods agreement save them?

If you want to use trump math, you could probably reduce it by at least 1000% in the twitterverse tonight.

Japan is tied at the hip with the US for military - especially Naval - support with China territorial ambitions. For many years Japan by imposed restrictions was completely dependent on the US.
