Just finished listening through the new Sources Say podcast.

Came to a part where they are discussing Khalil Whitney's decision to leave.

Apparently, Khalil was not going to class or participating in individual workouts. Also said that some of the players basically told him to "Learn his Role" or Leave. I am betting that player was Ashton.

Anyways, thought this was some interesting info.

I was one of his biggest fans upon his commitment. The more I read, though, I’m truly and honestly glad the kid’s gone. It would’ve ended up hurting team chemistry. Oh well.

I think there was a lot more to the story with him signing so late as well. It was always said that he was waiting so he could sign at his old elementary school, but I always felt that was more of a ******** excuse to just wait as long as possible to keep all their options on the table.
Yea I never bought that excuse either. And we all heard that UK was his "dream school." Well, that lasted all of 16 games. I don't buy any of it. He only came here thinking we were a quick ticket to the NBA. Sorry pal, it takes more than being a good athlete to make the NBA.

I’m not saying you didn’t hear it, I’m sure you did, but If this is actually true it’s awesome that we have kids that will hold each other accountable. That shows they really care about each other and the Team first. I hate to lose any kid, especially in a year where we don’t have very many to practice, but if one isn’t giving 110% he’s not helping himself or the others get better.

I wish Whitney all the best and hope his dreams come true one day. It’s going to take a lot of hard work and sacrifice, hopefully a fresh start will give him time to think about what he should’ve done differently and he can make it. Go Cats!

How can you wish someone who doesn’t want to work for playing time the best? Just roll in here and think he’s gonna play 30 minutes a game? Glad the kid is gone.

"Sources say" nothing about any of that until the kid transfers. Funny how that happens.

It's no secret who the guys are that do the podcast. It's most likely that they report stuff like this after the fact because if they report it while the kid is here then they will most likely lose any access they have to coaches or the program

You can share information without directly sharing it. There wasn't a whisper of any of this stuff.

In fact, most around the program kept reporting on how great Whitney's attitude was, how he was still putting in extra work, telling Cal he knew he had to play better, and cheering on his teammates.

and therein lies the difference in Cal and someone like Ole Roy. Cal will try to protect his players if he can where Roy throws them under the bus to protect his own hide.

What about the kids still on the team. Any troublemakers or potential cancers? Better to get these things out in the open before they leave so it won't look like sour grapes. He seemed to lave on good terms

If you are talking about podcast I think, most of those guys get their info off sites like this one

The problem with "dream" anything is that is everybody wakes up eventually.

He could lack skills and make it with his athletic potential but he would need hard work and determination and sounds like he has neither. I mean look at Hami when he came here and he's in the NBA.
The things that drove me crazy about KW is the lack of rebounding, good passing, and defense. It’s understandable that he wasn’t a good shooter and didn’t really have any offensive moves, but great athletes make up for it in other areas. See MKG and Diallo.

I heard that stuff too. Seemed like he was happy, working hard, and in it for the long haul. Yet here we are.

I don't know if any of that stuff from the podcast is true or not.

You might be right. I have no idea. But I gotta believe they talk to someone around the program, regardless of how far removed they may be.

if true, not going to class is a big deal

that is a "gots to go" situation for any player.
Absolutely. Also, no wonder he didn’t improve even a minute bit here. If it’s true that he wasn’t participating in individual workouts. It seems to line right up with the situation. What gets me is that all we heard about was how he was this tireless worker and constantly worked on his game. Seems as if that stopped upon his arrival in Lexington, for whatever reason. It’s all very bizarre.

I remember that last game he played in. He was on the break with Ashton and didn’t receive the pass for a layup/dunk. He kinda threw his hands up in disgust. I thought right then that he clearly wasn’t happy. IIRC, that was the very last play in which he played in a UK uniform. Add that to his demeanor on the bench in the second half and it was even more apparent.

maybe we will hear definitively about this but we probably won't

Its so rare to hear anything behind the scenes that is black and white in these situations.

I'm always amazed at how well UK keeps this sort of stuff from the general public.

This goes against what Mike Pratt said on the radio a few days ago. .

You do realize that BOTH things can be true, right? This doesn't necessarily contradict what Pratt said.

It's quite possible that Whitney was not going to class and workouts and wanted out AND his dad felt the same way and told him to leave. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

Diallo is 3x the player Whitney was in his 1 year UK. I mean he was really solid not great but solid . Made lots of great plays on both ends and won some games for us . He is an NBA bench player and he will be IMO for another 5 years . Whitney would need a lot of work on both ends to come close to Diallo.

Well he also said that Whitney and his teammates were visibly upset about the situation, because he wanted to stay. This was on Andy Sweeney's radio show.

Honestly though , other than Jerry Turdton nobody is going to come out with an article or podcast trashing a player .

Who knows what really happened, but I don’t feel like dogging the guy. He’s gone, and our team is working towards March. Probably one of those splits that was beneficial to both parties.

Was Hami better? Sure but I also recall a lot of people making the same claims that he was just an athlete and was limited in his shooting, ball handling and other skills. I am just saying it takes hard work to make those skills better and by the sounds of it he hasn't been working hard.
