I disagree, hope it continues. Have been to several in Kinnick and atmosphere is awesome. The losses have been tough to swallow, but still hope the instate rivalry continues.
The series in a vacuum is pretty great, just wish lil bro could continue to play as well against their conference foes as they do against us. They have the past couple years. A consistent 8-9 win ISU team in Ames wouldn't be the Lose-Lose situation for the Hawkeyes that it is now.
With that said, I'd be fine making the series 2 years on and 2 years off, so we could sneak an SEC or high-end ACC team onto the schedule. After all, variety is the spice of life.

The older I get the more I want this series to continue. Embrace such a small state having 2 major conference programs. It's also possible to still play a home/home with another major conference team but it may result in only 6 home games that season. Not sure if 7 games is still a must for the athletic department but I'd imagine they could make it work for a short term deal.
Every OTHER season so we can work in another P4 program.
I think the B10 goes to a 10 game conference schedule at some point, which puts Iowa in a position to need 2 home NC games every year.

It’s not a fear factor in my viewpoint but more a pragmatic one. It’s harder for Iowa to maximize their potential if ISU is also “good” or even competitive. We will miss out on recruits that we want both in-state and regionally on occasion if they are a viable option. So while I enjoy the rivalry when we win, it does come at a cost.

Michigan jumps us in Coaches Poll. #20 in Coaches and #18 in AP. This game does little for us. Win and it's meh, lose and we're dropped out of the polls.

If the series was discontinued why would clown fans buy season football tickets? Florida Central, Cincinnati, Baylor? Think of the series as our charitable contribution.

As noted above, an Iowa win is expected and does not significantly advance Iowa’s playoff prospects, a loss to ISU has material negative implications which drops Iowa in rankings which, in turn, makes playoff qualification much more difficult.
If Iowa doesn’t outright end the series at least recognize the imbalance and adjust scheduling to every other year and, preferably, more often at Kinnick.
That’s an accurate way to frame this - given the extensive reorganization of conference affiliations -and- the development of a FBS championship playoff structure, Iowa continuing to schedule the Cyclones is CHARITY.

Take emotion and pride out of the equation. After that, the logic (and money) fall WAY more on the side of discontinuing it from a Hawkeye perspective.
1) the $$$ advantage is strictly in ISUs favor. Iowa would sell out a home game regardless who they play. ISU would not.
2) playing a team from another state would bring $$$ into the state from outside visitors.
3) outside competition would increase TV viewership outside of the state - Iowa is low population and by itself cannot creat large media demand. Even playing a team like Pittsburgh, for example as we’ve done in the past, brings in a larger state and metro viewership.
4) expand recruiting base (see #3 above)
5) beating ISU does nothing for national image, but losing is a major hit to the perception and image (this is a fact, not an emotional argument). And it’s the only point that is remotely associated to the game outcome.
Here’s the final point I’d make, and I do bring emotion back into it here. ISU thinks about Iowa 52 weeks a year. Iowa thinks about ISU one week per year. That’s the professional way to approach it, but frankly the schedule dictates it. The BIG 12 is a second tier league with secondary market universities. The fact the Iowa has to be forced to be concerned about the survivorship of ISU only widens the challenge vs in conference school that have one major state university (Wisconsin, OSU…even Nebraska) as the population base (and again, $$$ support) can only go so far vs other schools with much bigger populations, corporations, and huge donors.
Arguing to keep this game literally only benefits ISU. If you want to argue to keep it because of tradition, prepared to be disappointed bc there is no room for sentimental tradition in the future of college football. I don’t like that one bit, but it’s the hard, real truth unfortunately.

So the Clowns nearly doubled their win total in the KF era alone? Way to make this series basically a coin flip game, Captain. Weak.

I have family and friends that are ISU fans.. since they don't care about Kansas or Kansas State in football, they have no games at all that "move the needle for them" except Iowa. For Iowa fans, this game will always be behind Minnesota, Wisconsin and now Nebraska. It's just 2 different worlds. I'm ambivalent about this game.. Iowa is NEVER ready for primetime in September but they need to play a P4 opponent. We've seen over the years, whether it's Iowa State, Arizona (or ASU), Oregon, Kansas State, North Carolina St, etc. etc. Iowa's going to struggle badly especially on the road and either escape with a win (Syracuse 2007) or suffer somewhere between a heartbreaking loss (too many to count) and an absolute mauling (see the Arizonas, Oregon, Kansas State and others). So it may as well be Iowa State.. it's not like we do better against anyone else.
