Starkville is Disneyland compared to what it was in the 80's. Main Street was a ghosttown back then. These kids don't remember that to "go out" we had to drive to Lowndes County. I can't speak for this particular project, but Starkville is changing, growing, and improving rapidly.

Perspective, I guess.

I hate that argument. Starkville used to be 40 years behind other college towns, but it's only 20 year behind now! Let's celebrate.

This. First thing we need to do is somehow get Ben Carver, Lisa Wynn, Roy Perkins, and Vaughn the 17 out of office. I still can't believe their ******** that is xontinuelly allowed to spew.

I know enough about how he votes to know he needs to get out. Go look at all the votes every time something is on the docket...Perkins, Vaughn, Carver and Wynn always vote the same. It's a damn shame that they hold the city back so much. Ben Carver has done nothing to improve the city of Starkville and even was in favor of allowing metal buildings everywhere in town. I'm sure you support that idea though.

So this gives you insight into what he wishes for the City of Starkville? You could at least do a cursory search:

Or speak to him privately before bashing him on a public forum.

What makes you think Meridian would have worked any closer with the University than Starkville has? At the end of the day it's all about Alumni changing the mentality of their former college town and investing into it. (see Oxford or Athens). Not talking some dumb **** about how the legislature made a bad decision 136 years ago. Nobody knows what would have happened. You think Oxford or Athens is in a "great location where interstates meet?"
Cut the emotional nonsense and we can have a logical discussion.

No one is saying that they will not invest in Starkville. I do, and frequently. I do everything in my power to advance Starkville, going forward. We have no choice in this. It does not hurt us, however, to reflect upon mistakes of the past and make sure we do not repeat them. That is not "dumb ****", no matter what you are buying. That is the way things are most effectively done. Sit back and observe before commenting sometimes, you may learn something.

Pro-Business my ***. Glad you post here Ben. Tell Lisa and Roy I said what's up. Hell you can look up at one of my older threads on the BoA and their shenanigans involving metal buildings...Carver was in favor of metal buildings AND gravel parking lots. Id love to tell him that the changing of liquor laws in the city would help us out so much but he'd be too busy putting his name on a plaque for a city hall he voted against in the first 17in place.

I have no insight, but metal buildings and gravel parking lots sucks. Also, I think Starkville should allow bars to be open till 1am on weekdays and 2am on weekends.

So, if he's voting against that - he sucks.

This is what's wrong with small town politics. If you're by all accounts a fine Christian man who publically states he likes big business then you're golden.

He might be the greatest person to ever grace your presence, but that doesn't mean he's fit for politics. His voting record is evidence of that. I don't need to meet him privately or read his grandstanding rabble on his personal webpage to learn that.

But this is pointless to point out to someone who reads articles and takes every quote as truth, so I don't know why I wasted my time responding to this post.

A parody Twitter account which the police investigated. Yes, the police were called to investigate who was running a parody twitter account.

Carver voted AGAINST Sunday sales...

So yeah, he's a troublemaker. His buddy Vaughn also voted against it, and managed to to get a DUI this summer, but I digress.

Clearly this is a BoA that keeps our town safe and full of metal buildings and gravel parking lots.

OK. Well let me know when the Mississippi legislature has to make another one of those tough decisions about where to locate another major University in our state. I would hate for them to pass on Meridian being the next college town because 2 interstates meet there.

See that's the problem. Small town politicians need to be progressive. But folks don't seem to understand that being progressive in a small town is way different that being a "progressive" on the national level. Night and day
