May have been the worst and most annoying announcer I’ve ever had to listen to. It was almost as painful listening to him as it was watching the game unfold.. even when we were up he was brutal. The play by play guy was decent IMO.

The only one worse than him is the woman that does the play by play for some of the tournament games I can’t remember her name.

Same color guy from the Clemson game....Brendan Haywood of UNC Tarheel fame.
I didn't love or hate him. Made a few good observations from my recollection.

he was terrible, and I said so to my wife during the game. He made some really dumb comments. Especially the one when Young got hit in the head. He said play on (to which the refs agreed), but if his beloved Tarheels got hit in the head he changes his tune. btw, how does Young getting hammered not any kind of foul?

An explanation of a later play noted that the refs can't call a foul based on replay. they can only look at whether F1/F2 or not. Young got fouled for sure, but the refs couldn't call it after the fact.

Same how a flag and 15 yards for PI in the CFB and NFL can't be picked up based on replay even if video showed otherwise.

Anyhow, him saying that's not a foul is either pure stupidity or he was only trying to support the refs (e.g. if a foul was called he would have agreed with that call as well).

For a team that covered the first RU games as well, they should have been a little better prepared

The way they would talk about some unrelated "background" item just as some major activity was occurring on the floor - and wouldn't stop their chatter to call the actual game, was super annoying.

I started watching some of our football games with the volume off, I think when Millen was homering for PSU non-stop. But then I got in the habit of watching games with the volume off, mostly because I turn the volume down for commercials and then forget to turn it back on when the game resumes. Almost regardless of announcers or sport, I find that our games are more enjoyable with the volume off more than half the time. Not even a statement on the quality of the announcing crews, it just sort of happened.

It took me a few games to realize that the games were generally more enjoyable, especially the basketball. Not sure why it is, perhaps because there's non-stop action in basketball and therefore a lot more commentary from the booth. Football is better with the volume on more of the time than basketball, but it's still enjoyable with the volume off some or most of the time, depending on the game.

Heywood is poor at best. Really wasn’t balanced either. He leaned towards Houston from my perspective. A lot of work to do to be a prime time analyst. I’ll take Grant Hill any day. Another ACC alum

He sucked. Wasnt balanced is an understatement. I thought the dude was a UH alum most of the game the way he was crushing on that team. When they were up it was all about how can they run away with it and when they were down it was how can they get stops and get back into it. It clearly pained him for the long stretch that RU led because it messed with his entire game narrative

Announcers were objective. They could not understand why we were playing like we were up by 8, when we were up by two and behind by one.

I was asking the same question. So announcers is not the reason Rutgers lost.
We had a poor strategy and terrible execution in the last two minutes.
We relied on our key players that got us this far and they fell short.
That's what happens in march Madness. It brings out different kind of pressure.

You can tell Buddy Boeheim is tailor made for March Madness.
How did we beat Syracuse?
