Cue up the Pat Forde article on how Michigan State must immediately release all signees from their letter of intent. I’m sure that will be out within the hour.***

What happened with that? Did none of our guys even ask to be released? I never saw another thing about it outside of the initial hand-wringing.

We did announce that we'd release any signees who wanted to transfer. I think we wound up losing one who wasn't one of the top recruits anyway.

Damn,

Surely there is an underlying health reason? If not, that has to be about the most spiteful timing you could ever give to a school you have a good relationship with....

This late in the game and less than 24 hours from signing day?

Benjamin Key, the aussie kid, was the only one that wanted out. He’s now signed with Mizzou.

I respect the hell out of what he did there. A lot might of had to do with Michigan being down, but 3 big ten titles in a five or six year span is very impressive.

Another random thought...Napier is gonna have some competition for that South Carolina gig if Muschamp gets canned. Dantonio played DB there in the 70’s, and USCe loves them some retreads.

These rumblings have been out there. He didn't do them any favors with the timing.

My guess is that is has something to do with the lawsuit from a former staffer alleging recruiting violations.

Really weird for sure. Is there a long time coordinator he's trying to force MSU to name as head coach?

Would think with this timing they will promote from within, and see what happens.

Watch Narduzzi to Michigan State and Moorhead to Pitt happen. Wonder is that would free up some of the buyout money?

My guess is it has something to do with the sexual assault charges against former players. More info keeps coming out that Dantonio ignored, and possibly even covered up, the allegations.

OTOH, I just read that he plans to stay on the AD staff in some capacity, so maybe I'm way off. The timing is very odd though. Better today than tomorrow or later, I guess.

Dantonio's retirement announcement came one day after his former recruiting director, Curtis Blackwell, filed claims that Dantonio committed NCAA recruiting violations as part of an ongoing lawsuit. The new filing alleges that Dantonio helped arrange employment for the parents of two high-profile recruits. Blackwell also says that Dantonio took him on recruiting trips to a high-profile recruit's home, which is an NCAA violation.

Bama says....what's wrong with this?
