The long-awaited announcement was made today. The CBI field is reduced to eight teams playing on three consecutive days (March 22-24) in Daytona Beach. Quality over quantity. It will be televised on FloSports, whatever that is.

In case you missed the Selection Show on the Ocho (simulcast on FloSports), here it is. Two of the schools I had never heard of: Longwood (heh-heh, heh-heh) and Bellarmine. The other six teams are:
  • Army (Them I've heard of)
  • Bowling Green (It's been 53 years since their last NCAA appearance, but this is a start)
  • Bryant (With the Kiss!)
  • Coastal Carolina (Which is different from East Carolina, I guess? Maybe farther east?)
  • Pepperdine (If you're already in Malibu, who needs Daytona Beach?)
  • Stetson (Gotta tip your hat to them. Jacob deGrom alma mater.)
Sadly, no CIT this year. We all look forward to its re-emergence in 2022.

Coastal Carolina is in South Carolina. East Carolina is in North Carolina.

Worm and Magoo...for most of the last 30 years RU basketball wasn't as significant as a tick on a moose's *** so it's not a good look to mock those other schools or the tournament. Worse, have any of those places had Bannon or Rice kinds of national embarrassment ?

Longwood's around Philly, I believe. Rollie Massimino coached them for a while many years after his Villanova days.

I do not mean to disparage other schools, and I apologize to whomever if I did. But I am mocking the CBI, and do not apologize for it. Because the tournament is garbage. Did you see the records of some of the teams in it? Longwood is 12-16. TWELVE AND FREAKIN' SIXTEEN. A mere 10-10 in the Big South, a bottom quadrant conference. Stetson was 11-14 overall, and 7-9 in the A-Sun, another bottom quadrant conference.

When RU was under consideration for the CBI, we declined. And properly so.

Disparaging the 'garbage' tournament because of the records of the participants and the quality of the conferences is disparaging the teams in it. No way around that. Your backtrack makes absolutely no sense.

No one is forcing to you watch.

It wasn't that long ago there were serious discussion on this board (but, thankfully, NEVER w/in the AD) about paying for this....

...I bear no ill-will to teams who want to play....

Rollie coached at Northwood University in Florida.

Best of Luck,

Looks like I got everything wrong. Longwood not near Philly. Rollie didn't coach there. Other than that, right on the money. Longwood Gardens is near Philly though and I hear it's nice but don't take my word for it, obviously.

We have a long standing member of TKR who I seem to recall has mentioned in the past being a Bellarmine alum. Small school in Kentucky.

I wish any of these games were on regular cable. I would have watched any of the games. I'm a hoops junkie. I would have loved to see Bryant and Peter Kiss continue playing. Oh well.
I was talking to a buddy of mine who went to St Johns, and I said it's weak that StJ and SHU declined the NIT and used covid as a cover. He agreed. The NIT is on national TV. It's not a BS bowl game played on Dec 23.

Wow, I didn't know Bellarmine in their first year of D-1 made the CBI. They finished 13-7 and 2nd in the Atlantic Sun regular season losing to Liberty in the final game the regular season to give Liberty the championship. I don't think Bellarmine is eligible for the NCAA for their first 4 years in D-1. They did win the D-2 National Championship in 2011 which I attended in Springfield, MA. I think they made the Final Four 4 times over 10 years. I ran 4 years of Cross Country at Bellarmine and was Co-Captain of the team with my twin brother for two years. Bellarmine is the Knights also and we wife graduated from Douglass and I have been a fan of RU for over 50 years. Bellarmine is a Catholic Franciscan University which has one beautiful campus in Louisville. I hope they can play well. They can really shoot the three but are not very tall. I think they were # 181 in Kenpom when I checked a few days ago. Not too bad for their first year in D-1 being ahead of 176 D-1 schools.

Usually the CBI isn't full of teams with losing records and if a team in the tournament does have a losing record it's usually a team from a high-major conference.

In 2019 West Virginia was in the CBI with a record of 14-20. They lost in the second round to Coastal Carolina. DePaul was also in the 2019 CBI. I think their record was 15-14. They made it to the championship round but they lost. Longwood was also in the 2019 CBI.

Loyola-Chicago and Nevada are recent winners of the CBI Tournament. That experience helped those programs to the success they've been experiencing the past 4 or 5 seasons.

The Gazelle Group produces the CBI. They also produce the Empire Classic, Legends Classic and the Gotham Classic.

Also, the tournament is being streamed on FloHoops. Not FloSports. I'm not sure that FloSports is an actual thing.

I know in the age of Twitter it’s commonplace to speak/correct someone first and fact check later. But how hard is it to google something. Yes it’s on FloSports

You have to pay to watch Flo Sports. What a great idea. Ask people to pay to watch a tournament they don't care about

‘This.
And you need to pay for Flo to watch FCS Food games this Spring.
Networks missed an opportunity for some viewers right now.

Coastal Carolina had a good 2020 football season.

Don't knock Coastal

If it wasn't for CCU where would all the Myrtle Beach area Hooters get their employees not to mention beer cart girls at the golf courses?

Meh. I think you can make fun of a post season tournament that invites sub .500 schools from small conferences without disparaging the schools involved. I don’t think pointing out that these teams aren’t very good is really “disparaging” either.

CBI Twitter says it's on FloHoops. Probably the same company.

If nothing else, this adds Peter Kiss to the long list of kids that made a post season tournament after transferring out of RU. 😜
