Until now I’ve been 100% on the “start Plumlee in Game 2” train, but after some thought I can see the logic in starting Ginn.
1. I get that his last two starts include getting hit hard by LSU and leaving early against Southern, but in truth, other than the two times he left early due to injury, he’s had two bad starts all year and both were against LSU. Otherwise he’s been really dang good when healthy.
2. If he’s not healthy by now, is he really going to be any healthier by Thursday or Friday?
3. We could easily lose tomorrow no matter who throws. So in that situation, who would you rather have throwing in an elimination game? I think the answer is Plumlee for sure.
4. We are going to need Ginn at some point. Now is the least risky time since this is not an elimination game for us.
Throwing Ginn would be a bit of a gamble for sure. But the kid is obviously super talented and has been mostly great for us all year when healthy. If our coaches think he’s healthy then I’m OK with starting him tomorrow. Also perfectly fine with Plumlee.
I do think it’s a tougher decision than some think, however.
