Is it just me or is it hard to listen to these days? I understand ads pay the bills but my god he drags them out so long. Its more bulldog burger and top 10 rock lists than state content now. Who listens to a Mississippi state podcast for half of it to be about rock bands.

Agreed. I have to use the skip button a lot. I like Steve and he can get long winded. I’m guessing since he isn’t supported by any company like BSR anymore he’s doing this all on his own so
1) he needs a lot of ad sponsors
2) he can talk about whatever the 17 he wants

Skip button and 1 1/2X speed are essential for listening now a days. When I listen to the boneyard I wore out my skip button. I use both in T&L now.

The summer is absolutely the worst time to listen to MSU podcasts. I catch up on my other podcasts right now.

I appreciate him doing it and enjoy having more to listen too. I can zip through the ads with ease using the +30 button. That top 10 list though. Good gracious.

It’s his show and he can do what he wants, however he has to know those aren’t for everyone. How hard would it be to move it to the end of the show so those that are just wanting to hear about state can tune out? I grab the slider as soon as it starts and go forward 10 minutes. Most of the time it’s still not over.

As I said earlier, I do appreciate him doing a show though.

I like it, my favorite MSU podcast. Ads are a part of it. I sometimes listen to the Top 10, depends on what I'm doing. But I'm not too into music.

I have only listened a few times since the Ole Miss committee on infractions hearing ended and the sanctions were released. I only listened then because we thought he had inside info on what was happening, but hindsight being 20/20, he didn't.

He is definitely difficult to listen to. I much prefer T&L and Out of Left Field as far as MSU podcasts go.

I know we're all different people with different likes/dislikes, etc... but I just don't understand the appeal of podcasts. At all. I've tried to listen to a few about a few different topics over the years but I just can't get into them. It's not even the content... I just can't stand listening to people talk incessantly. Maybe if they were about 5-10 minutes long, I could stomach it but I don't want to hear anyone talk about anything for 30 minutes or more. And certainly not for an hour-plus.

So you want this to be known across all message boards huh? Geez you must really have an ax to grind

Mike Rowe has one for "the curious mind with a short attention span". It's similar to the old Paul Harvey "Rest of thee Story".

To me that's not much different than listening to Head to Head or whatever its called nowadays on Supertalk. I can drive home from work which is about 15 miles and get about 3 minutes of content. It seems like every commercial break is immediately followed up in-show with another 2 minute commercial break. You just came back from 5 minutes of commercials, then the "C-Spire text line" is mentioned which leads to another 2 minute spiel on C-Spire after which a couple of text are read then the "Farm Bureau phone line" gets it's turn so you get around a minute on Farm Bureau then its time for another hard commercial break. Rinse and repeat.

The beauty of a podcast is that you control it. I can be as long or short, or non-existent as far as you’re concerned. So,e days I listen to all of it, some days fast forward thru the top 10…etc.

same for T&L. I rarely listen to more than 10 minutes of rumblings.

Plenty of options for stories or segments that are 5-10 minutes long depending on what you're interested in. But I'm also sure there are some minority of people who are just not entertained by audio stuff.

I quit listening to Steve a couple years ago. Even though I agreed with his opinion many times I got tired of listening to him tell others how they should behave.

Haha, so you're straight lying?

I saw it, too. I thought the same thing. So, you mean to tell me that two separate people had the exact same hot take, today, on two different boards?! Or is someone just stealing your awesome content? I’ll hang up and listen

Lol, I love it when he calls out boorish or self loathing behavior but he never does it by name and he always says people are entitled to behave/say what they want. He’s the best podcast going. Speed through the ads or top ten if you don’t care for it. It’s hardly a problem.

Agree with all. Those fans absolutely need to be called out.

Rosey is a great ambassador for State. I respect that he formulated his dream years ago (to tell the MSU story) and made it happen. That's one of the hardest things in life for most of us to figure out - our true mission.

Steve has had a good podcast before and built a following. And yes, it's summer without a whole lot going on so relevant content is sparse since the baseball championship has been won ... I'm okay with a pod having ads. It's understandable, but it doesn't mean his ad reads need to go forever and ever. You almost get half the Bulldog Burger Menu each episode. And I don't care to know about Steve's manscaping habits or his cologne preferences... but if they're there, don't drag them out.

But as others have said, it's his Holier Than Though approach to talking down to fans. Telling us fans what we should or shouldn't do as if he's in the ivory tower of MSU fandom. It's off putting.

If you listen a Monday after a football game you'll get an almost play by play of every drive in the game. That's overkill. And wears out a listener.

His show could be good if it was 30-45 minutes depending on how much content he has. But it seems he adds lots of filler AND long pauses.

Ive got a couple MSU buddies who I think the world of. Great guys. And both of them have told me that they always liked Steve, but after his role in the Freeze/OM saga/debacle that he’s become almost unbearable, due to his inflated sense of self-worth.

Obviously I don’t listen to the boneyard, but I see plenty of stuff he posts or says on here and on Ole Miss message boards. I’ve always thought he gets a very unfair wrap on some things, and I will defend him until the day I die on the great work he’s done in the addiction world. I applaud him for that. But, he’s a weird cat who definitely seems to have some odd tendencies. But, he’s made a nice career out of it, so hat tip to him on that.

Exactly, I don't see the big deal. ALL free podcasts are like this. Heck, T&L I know EVERY DAY to skip ahead to the 5 minute mark unless I want to hear the same Strange Brew ad, Humble Taco ad, etc again. And then I know in the middle of the podcast to skip ahead unless I want to hear the same Welcome Home Beef, Two Brothers or Advantage Business ads again and they only usually go around 30 minutes total. It is what it is if you still want these guys to put the time in to do the podcast. They have to get some compensation and I doubt any of you want to have to pay to listen. Boneyard isn't any worse than any others and Steve usually hits a lot of different topics in every podcast that runs an hour or more. I also usually just skip on past the Top 10 list unless he does an artist that I really like. But hey, its not that difficult to do. And like someone else said I usually run the podcast at 1.5 speed to get on through the content more quickly.

Can't really blame him for taking pride in that given the MS press and OM media sites were essentially silent on the issue and were giving OM and Freeze a free pass during the entire ordeal. Only guys that would really even talk about it were Steve and a few of the national college football writers. And Steve sure didn't give MSU a free pass when we were under investigation either. A lot of MSU fans still hold that against him.

no doubt. He’s obviously not everyone’s cup of tea, but he has - more than anyone else - helped shift the media narrative in this state. I can enjoy all the MSU podcasters, especially when we’re winning.

Personally, I’d rather hear rock n roll or music as a side topic than woohoo wrestling scthick but to each his own.

Steve is long winded no doubt, but he's still one of the biggest state fans on earth. I agree it could be shorter but he's still got a great podcast.

Plus, I like listening to people who work hard because they have a chip on their shoulder. Both of those would describe Steve.

Steve has a good podcast. I have a feeling some of you are triggered by his call outs that hit too close to home. I can understand but being wooly but some state fans are the most negative people on the planet. The sky never stops falling in Starkville.

Lol, you're going to pretend the situations call for the same response? Funny! One is our instate rival, direct competition on the recruiting trail, being protected by the state’s leading paper. He did only report the truth because it was being buried.

lastly, the words the Umiss fandom attribute to Steve are incredibly inaccurate. He really pulled punches when it was all said and done. If there was anything remotely libelous, there’s no doubt there were plenty willing to sue him. The best part was the the whole Godfrey response the minions awaited… which essentially just confirmed everything Steve said, just with a spin to pull down MSU or the entire system as corrupt. It was certainly a golden era of rebel tears.
