'Cause Flood is gone and Ash hasn't been around long enough to build up enough opposition?

There is nothing to fight about.

Zero.

The days of fighting tooth and nail with Cincy/Pitt/Ville/WV for the title in the late '00s are far gone. The off season felt like lumber jacks swing and hacking toward the finish and the season felt like rampaging bulldozers.

We are fighters with pillow fists now. You can't have detractors with you are losing.

(There was so much passion on this board back then - good or bad, if was fantastic. What I appreciated about the detractors, they wanted to win and nip picked every move. Its better than what we have now - nothing.)

There's a lot of truth in what Moz wrote. We shouldn't ignore the obvious -- the program has no juice right now. That's not a knock on Ash and doesn't mean it won't in the future. But, for right now, that's where we are. I'll be shocked if our season ticket numbers don't drop significantly.

You could be right, I got several letters from RU, begging me to renew my tickets,
they seemed desperate.

der actually made a showing about 2 months ago then disappeared again

I understand he posted on the men's basketball board during the NCAA tournament. I'm surprised he would want to change name; his years of posting had given him credibility in lots of areas, even though people disagreed with him. I think the coming of Coach Ash has decreased the level of antagonism on this board; with few exceptions, people agree that he ought to be given more of a chance. It's not like the battles about Coach Flood or even the battles about whether Schiano could take us to the next level.

This. We're in a holding pattern and won 2 games last year. If we don't improve things will pick up with negativity. If we get to 6 wins it will be popping the other way.

A 2 win FB season in the B1G stamps RU as the official bottom feeder of the conference. When I talk CFB with other B1G fans here in FL and tell them I went to RU and root actively for RU there is mostly silence on the other end.

OTOH, FL Iowa, MSU, PSU fans, etc usually have lively conversations together.

We are currently the FB lepers of the conference. That's why Chris Ash is here. Keep our fingers crossed that he can deliver. Otherwise it's more time in the cellar for RU fans.

If we get to 6 wins with this talent, Ash should be COY for the entire country.

They don't hear you. Speak louder.

That's a joke, right ? Lol

My main point to the CFB fans here in FL is that we are in the B1G and that every conference needs a bottom feeder.

We are the conference bottom feeder now, but that will change in the future. I usually get a chuckle from the B1G fans with that one. Especially those Wisky fans. Boy would I like RU to lay an azz kicking on them.

And I hope I'm alive to witness it, ha !

Just print this out and show it to the Wisky fans:

The record for the great Barry Alvarez in his first 3 years at Wiskey.

........ Overall......... Conference
1990.... 1-10........... 0-8
1991.... 5-6............. 2-6
1992.... 5-6............. 3-5

It took time but he built them into a power. It doesn't happen overnight.

So if Flood doesn't go at least 5-6 this year, he should be on the hot seat?

Nothing personal but you were kind of a prick during the years you mention above.

Der posted thousands upon thousands of times. Must have spent several hours a day doing it. He'd generally take the devil's advocate approach which was needed on many topics. But I never understood how he thought GS did an average job at Rutgers. When was the last time we had a coach offered the Michigan job? Previous BB and football coaches faded away in obscurity after failing here.

Many of us are not convinced that Greg was actually offered the Michigan job. I believe that Greg may have been on the Mich short list, but I don't believe that he ever had a firm offer.

Benching Tom Savage for a second string guy in Chas Dodd and running the Wild Knight offense that same season are not proud moments in Greg's RU coaching career IMO. Others may disagree.

Board isnt the same because of a few reasons...

1. no winning, RU is the bottom feeder in the Big 10. All the fun is taking out of the board until we start going over 500 again

2. no controversies.. since 2006 RU has been embroiled in controversy...Mulcahy firing, stadium expansion, Star Liar, Schiano leaving, Mike Rice, Tim Pernetti, Julie Herman, Barchi, Ray Rice, Flood....never a dull moment when you had people taking sides and endless dead horses to beat

3. no loyalty shills....Schiano had his and they fought his detractors on virtually everything. No criticism was allowed of good ole Greg and that led to lots of nasty spats on the board. Then comes Fudd and the same man love emerges but this time even worse because Flood cannot hold or live up to Greg's jock stain. With both polarizing figureheads gone we are left with Ash who though he has his detractors its just too early for people to get nasty yet

4. no worrying about conference realignment...a big part of the board for about 5-7 years was where RU was going to wind up and if they could get that Big 10 invite...mission accomplished and we find out its not all that it was cracked up to be, at least I think that way.

it was a very good job for a Rutgers coach but very average nationally. A string of smoke and mirror seasons in minor bowls. Only one true relevant season. Great for Rutgers but generally mediocre as there a ton of programs pulling 7-5 type seasons. He beat Louisville but that was it, could never win the big one and there were some shaky seasons by the Big East. His losses to UConn were legendary for how pitiful they were

Current futility ... Fans and ticket buyers have the sense that the gap between us and the other Big Ten teams, talent- and coaching staff-wise, has widened, compounded by the fact that our Big Ten role is clear -- fertile recruiting area for other teams.

Like I said on many posts, we have so appeal , juice , mojo or if you dare ....stain. Nothing right now , no identity . So what do you expect ? We can't be the talk of the town because there is no reason to. We need a major event or person to change that. Could be a player or coach. But we just don't have it now. We need to work on defeating some people. And have some more players like grant. Until then...very quiet.

Did you watch the games? It was clear that we were putting historically talented players (by RU standards) out there and there was a steady flow to the NFL. You have to realize the difficulty of the RU job, especially when we were in an uncertain conference situation. That is what some fail to understand. Beating Pitt and Cuse were rare events prior to GS. We did lose some games to UConn when we were more talented by they played ball control, low risk, boring football which kept them in games. We dominated a very solid USF teams for years. Bottom line, to take us from one of the worst teams in the country, to middle of the pack, was much more than "average". That is why he was a very strong candidate for big time schools. They were not hiring "average" coaches when they had their pick. His teams also filled the stadium, allowed expansion to occur, demonstrated to the B1G what our potential was, developed the Block R, got students to attend games which greatly increases the chance that they will come to games after graduation and donate, etc. Average? Come on now.

All correct points that can be summed up in one word - apathy.

The only issue is the above. So far, B10 is pretty much exactly what it was cracked up to be: more money and taking our lumps.

Bingo! Many of us old timers are resigned to the fact that RU is not likely to be relevant in our division for a long time, if ever. Rutgers just doesn't have the same athletic tradition and culture as our conference mates. Some of us doubt that it will ever change. Arguing if our team has a shot to finish 4th, 5th or 6th in our division is not that productive.

I haven't been posting much. Plus I gotta tell ya - after 30 years I'm afraid it's just not going to ever happen. I can be disappointed at so many other things.
