Happens every season. The committee would be fine with filling the tourney with Big Ten and ACC teams.

Nice pick! Looking at the selection committee it's easy to see where the midwest bias comes from.

Mitch Barnhart - went to school in Canada and then Ohio
Mike Bobinski - Purdue AD
Lawrence Cunningham - Notre Dame grad, first job was Ball State AD
Michael O'Brien - Toledo assit AD
Jamie Pollard - Iowa St. AD
Chris Reynolds - Bradley AD
Craig Thompson - Minnesota grad, worked at Kansas St. for years.

Of the 9 members.. only 3 don't owe their careers to the midwest:

Bernadette McGlade.. N. Carolina grad, worked at Ga. Tech before AAC comish
Charles McClelland.. SWAC comish
Tom Burnett.. Southland Conf comish

I can see that group as a whole sharing some disdain for the "football schools".

Speedball is an old baseball term for a fast ball dating back in to the early 1900s... kind of fits with Glory Days. Every time I hear the song I think of my late friend Bobby Myrick, the Mississippi State and MLB left-hander who could damn sure throw that speedball by you... I caught him in youth baseball in Hattiesburg and he mutilated by left hand. Never enough padding in those old mitts...
