Okay Mountaineers fans, here's what my unofficial eyes have seen in the Big 12 after two weeks:
1. Baylor - they may have less players, but this early in the season, nobody seems to be noticing. They are still talented and are 2-0.
2. West Virginia - projected to be off to a 3-0 start before conference play. Our defense is playing better than expected and the deep ball is paying off.
3. Oklahoma State - was absolutely robbed vs. CMU, but shouldn't had put themselves in that position in the first place. Has the most talent back from a year ago, but is not a juggernaut.
4. Oklahoma - two tough early season losses against two teams that should be in the playoff chase. Not sure if the players will be motivated enough to win the Big 12 when a playoff berth is probably not in the cards.
5. TCU - didn't look as good as I would have anticipated. Good QB, good defense, and one of the best coaches in the Big 12.
6. Texas - they are getting real close to being elite . . . again. Upset last week at Cal, but Strong is putting it together a solid squad in Austin. Receiving a host of transfer players from Baylor helps speed up the process.
7. Texas Tech - can store on anybody and anybody can score on them . . . same Red Raiders but Mahomes should be in the Heisman conversation by year's end.
8. Kansas State - doesn't matter. They are a tough matchup every year for West Virginia.
9. and 10. Iowa State and Kansas . . . still struggling.
