We’re only a few weeks into the season, but it’s safe to say the B1G is very deep this year. This is a 7, maybe even 8 bid league. Just watching the ACC/B1G and some of the conference games, you can tell every win will be earned this year. Why am I bringing this up you ask? Mainly because we need to temper our expectations. This year’s team would probably win 7-8 conference games last year. This year however, we all need to recognize how tough the road is. We have 20 conference games. Take another look at the schedule. We won’t be favored too many times. I only say this because I can expense the expectations rising a bit. Love the roster Pike is putting together, but everyone else around us getting better as well.

I still going to be tough winning more than 7 league games. I think 6 is the reasonable goal to shoot for. If we beat SHU and take care of Maine, Columbia and Fordham that would be 15-15

T-rank currently projects 9 conference teams to make the tourney (UM, MSU, Wisc, Neb, Pur, Ind, OSU, Iowa, and Maryland) with Northwestern being the 3rd team left out.

At this point I'd say the conference is getting at least 7 teams in.

It’s a deep league. When leagues are this deep, there’s usually one or two teams that lose more games than you expect. We’ll look good this year, But man winning will be difficult

Well we have 9 home B1G games remaining. Can we win 5? That’s a tall order. That and a win in the tourney would be a successful season IMO simply because with our talented youth and the veterans in the B1G this year, we will be in really good shape next season and even the one after to make an effort at getting in the big dance

Didn't Tom Izzo say after the Rutgers game that the Big Ten is better and deeper than at any time in his many years of coaching at MSU?

I'm curious why fans always tell others to dial back expectations? What's wrong with wanting more? Maybe the best way to enjoy the team is not to have expectations, but just enjoy what Pike is building. To each his own.[cheers]

If we have a trap game left it’s Fordham.

for sure although they arent very good....6-1 but lost to Houston Baptist and one point wins over Columbia and Manhattan but its dangerous because of the environment of the arena and not being focused and looking ahead to exams and SHU

with the league as deep as it is, I'd imagine 11-12 teams will have a chance at making the tournament so if somebody is dropping games it will be propping up other teams on the bubble. By current KenPom projections, 11 of the 14 teams in conference will have 18+ wins heading into the Big Ten tournament.

I say we are going to the NIT even if we lose to SHU

8-2 OOC
8-12 in conference- have to have faith that we will win games in a packed RAC
2-1 B1G Tourn

Thats 18-15, and with our schedule NIT worthy

8-12 conference wins?!? Damn that’s optimistic
8 conference wins. 8-12 record.

There is a ton of home games this year that are pretty good teams but are winnable if you believe the RAC is back. PSU, Northwestern, Minnesota, Indiana, Nebraska, Maryland, Iowa (who I think is way overrated). Sweep PSU (or Northwestern) and beat Illinois at Illinois who is actually younger than us and thats 9 games right there without even talking about beating the top of our league.

Big 10 is a bear this year.
Sagarin has 7 teams in the top 18 and 13 in the top 63 where he has Rutgers placed. This is the deepest the Big Ten has been in a decade . Have to protect our home court the rest of the way.

That will really get the players motivated
Yeah, I feel like people dont know what goals are around here... you dont set your goals at the minimally accomplished thing. If you do, that's all you'll get
