So NW was below their average today in penalties by 66%
They held our DE constantly. They put a late hit on Martinez. They committed an illegal motion on third down in OT.
As an Iowa fan you know how many times I've watched us beat the piss out of NW for the entire game only for them to pull some BS out in the last 3 minutes of the game.

Thank you. The one dam penalty they called on NW was not a judgement call. Zero judgment calls agasint NW.
When you're averaging less than 3 penalties even only having 2 penalties is going to be a big drop percentage wise.
It's not the ref's fault. The Big 10 is just a tougher conference top to bottom than the Big 12. Especially the mid tier Big 10 teams are better than the mid tier teams in any other conference. Nebraska would beat a good handful of teams in the Big 12 this year, but will really struggle in the Big 10.
Northwestern is a trash team. They aren't good at all. When we were decent, not great, we would have beat northwestern by 4 TDs every year.
Yes they were average 3.1 per game @ 34 yards per game. Today was way under their average in yardage. And all games had at least two “ judge-mental penalties”, none today.
So maybe they played perfect ball today. The refs called no penalties on them today. Offsides and illegal formation and basically all the 5 yard penalties are not penalties called by refs. They speak for themselves. And It’s not the lack of penalties on them that ticked me off as much as it was the BS they called on us. IMO our kids cleaned up a lot of sloppy play today especially bonehead plays that cause a flag. I feel refs were quick to throw anything close at us and that’s just sorry cause our boys worked their asses off today and don’t deserve this. Out secondary doesn’t deserve to get called for ticky tack PIs every week. It paralyzes their ability to really play receivers tight

Um, wow you're right. Northwestern didn't go 99 yards in 1:47 with no timeouts. They only really went 84 yards in 1:42 with no timeouts. My bad - the refs had everything to do with that last scoring drive.

The mid tier teams in the Big 10 are not better than every other conference. This is a completely ridiculous claim. The Big 12 and SEC mid-tier teams are are easily better than the mid-tier teams in the Big 10. This may actually end up costing both conferences to the point that the Big 12 may not get anyone in the playoff and the SEC only 1 team. Meanwhile, OSU will likely waltz into the playoff unscathed.
