Maybe you're a spazI know, but I'm sayin' it anyway, because it's all true.
In Hayden Fry's very first season in Iowa City, he had no portal. He couldn't go out and buy players. He had to use the guys who were left over from the previous staff that had been fired. That was 1979, and Iowa opened with Indiana and Lee Corso, not Albany. Fry started a kid from Des Moines named Phil Seuss at QB, a kid who had been buried on the depth chart as a 5th-string DB. Hell, he hadn't played QB since high school. But Fry coached him up, and he and the Iowa offense looked like a well-oiled machine in that opener. Seuss threw the ball all over the field and was as accurate as Chuck Long. Iowa scored 26 points in the first half, and Iowa looked like a major college offense for the first time in years. And Seuss wasn't being paid a million freakin' dollars.
So stop with the excuses. Maybe Lester isn't such a genius after all. Maybe KF should find a hobby. Maybe Beth should start hitting those contact numbers hard. Either Iowa was hiding everything for next week--which they did really, really well--or this team may not win one game.
We'll know more after next week, but I'm lololol at the "we may not win one game". I can't count the number of times we've heard that after a rough game where we scored 7-10 points against teams not much better then this one. SOSDD.....(thats same old **** different day)I know, but I'm sayin' it anyway, because it's all true.

This is what concerns me. They said Cade would ready to go too. That looked like a qb with an arm injury yesterday.Leg cramps, not worried.
Mental cramps - somewhat worried.
I watched quite a few of his SDSU games, attended a couple. From what I saw, he was never perfect but always in control. I didn’t see that vs. Albany.
I believe MG bounces back. The jump from SDSU to Iowa is a big one. He missed Spring. They say the shoulder is 100%. He is a fighter. I hope he finds a better groove in Ames.
That game you mentioned with Phil Seuss starting at QB started my love affair with Iowa football as a college freshman. I had major reservations when Gronowski had shoulder surgery immediately after he came in and signed the big contract. I lift weights and know the impact a damaged shoulder can have.I know, but I'm sayin' it anyway, because it's all true.

Team currently sits at 1-0.--or this team may not win one game.
Anything he post that is incorrect?Maybe you're a spaz
Unlike that Phil Suess team that lost the opener to IU.Team currently sits at 1-0.

Please. Your memory is a bit fuzzy. Suess was solid that day, but he was no Chuck Long. He was a pedestrian 17-30 (good numbers compared to yesterday, granted) and he wasn't throwing the ball all over the field. They were short passes and the completions were primarily to the TEs and RBs. His one TD pass was a 5-yard play to RB Dennis Mosley. It was, in fact, mostly the Mosley show with his running and scoring three rushing TDs to go along with the receiving one.I know, but I'm sayin' it anyway, because it's all true.

Agreed - too many designed QB runs for my druthers. But, excluding the sack MG had 10 carries for 47 yards. That's good YPC and just a tick above Washington's.I was not thrilled with how many QB designed runs they called last night. I like the play as a tool in the toolbox, but damn they sure called it A TON 1) for a guy that was coming off surgery and 2) with pretty nominal success.
They also lost that game 30-26........... Iowa scored 26 points in the first half, and Iowa looked like a major college offense for the first time in years. And Seuss wasn't being paid a million freakin' dollars.
How'd the Iowa State game end up that year? How'd that game end up?
Seuss went 17 of 30 for 277 yards; six times as many yards as we had yesterday. How'd that game end up?
Yep cause once they start in a game they aren’t gonna go away. Needs to prep right this week.KF said in the post game on the radio that it was just cramping and to "put everything else to rest".
Time to eat more banana because monkey never cramp.

To keep the clowns in the dark about his injury....duh!!!!!re: arm injury
In his post-game press conference Granowski said that the game plan drawn up by Tim Lester was to throw deep ….but the Albany defensive alignment/scheme took that option off the table; that they had to adjust the pass offense and take what the defense was allowing.
Why would Tim Lester game plan to throw deep if Granowski’s arm is still injured?
You inflated it by 50 yards. Suess had 227, most of it in the first half. Still significantly more than yesterday.Seuss went 17 of 30 for 277 yards; six times as many yards as we had yesterday.
Soooo....Iowa won?Seuss went 17 of 30 for 277 yards; six times as many yards as we had yesterday.
"In the 1979 season-opening game on September 8, Indiana defeated Iowa 30-26 in a dramatic comeback after trailing 26-3 at halftime."Yep. 30-14![]()
Iowa and their coaches are playing 8D chess! It will all become clear after the natty!re: arm injury

So the defense was allowing nothing in the pass game? Because that’s what Iowa got.re: arm injury

The defense was allowing short passes. I believe my prior post and Granowski’s post-game comments were pretty clear about that.So the defense was allowing nothing in the pass game? Because that’s what Iowa got.
But I'm disappointed nobody got my reference...
Going by memory, but I seem to recall Kirk in the postgame presser that MG was trying a little too hard to make things happen along with the cramps. Said he needed to relax and that everything is ok and will be going forward.Watch the play with Gronowski running the draw up the middle at the 1240 mark in the third quarter. Then watch him get up and walk. Something is wrong.
Oh, silly me. I was looking at the Iowa-Iowa State score..................."In the 1979 season-opening game on September 8, Indiana defeated Iowa 30-26 in a dramatic comeback after trailing 26-3 at halftime."
Huh.
I can verify...I was listening in my dad's bedroom on a "clock radio" as Jim Zabel went insane.
