Never pick a fight with someone who's employer buys ink by the barrel (and defaults on the loan) and is so talented a writer he will get a pay raise when a national "living wage" is established. Horka makes less than a fry cook in Illinois and is still overpaid.

It’s kinda amazing to me how many beat writers that come through that paper just don’t get it. Why on earth would you antagonize your subscriber base like Kellenberger and Bonner did and how Horka currently seems to be doing?

It’s possible to say “Mississippi State lost the Egg Bowl” without being snarky as can be about it. Do they honestly think any State fan is going to want to read their work when it’s put out there on the table in such a condescending way?

Then that little ***** Horka went Full Kellenberger.

View attachment 18864

his facts have never been our issues with him. It’s his opinions. He writes for clicks. Probably doesn’t give a **** what bridges are burnt. Want some more “facts”

The Heisman hopeful for next year, and “if he repeats this year, he will be a 1st round prospect!?!? “ I damn near choked when I heard Richard Cross say that.....he was outplayed by our freshman qb

Elhija Moore was outplayed by Justin Wiley sp* a rising freshman....I honestly have no clue of his first name.

MS State and 49 outplayed OM...5 star RB...4star qb.....5star WR.....for half that game and lost on Hail Mary attempt...

Someone might want to tell him that "what offense has looked better and better" is subjective and thus, is an opinion.

with no competition the ledger controls the market.....however, their target demographic is bluhairing off....and that “inside info” has lost its value. Mississippi, as a whole, needs a barstool style pamphlet...nothing but sports and betting and highschool football and hunting ****. I honestly havnt read a Ledger in over 15 years.
Our states papers are horse **** so they have to hook you.

Call me, I’ll write for free.

And is it disrespectful for him to address our coach as "Mike" in the virtual pressers? The little punk.

I'm just surprised his list of reasons didn't include something one of our players offensively tweeted as a 15 year old. This guy's been full of himself since the day he started on our beat. And they honestly are confused and wonder why the media is dying on the vine.

His stupid *** logic is that since State and OM both hired offensive coaches as head coach, that’s how they should be measured.

This old goat hasn't subscribed to the CL in 30+ years. I can't see why anyone subscribes to a news paper anymore.

I will always stand by the opinion that a beat writer should never write an opinion piece. Especially one that ***** on the school you cover.

Write about the games and do feature stories. Leave the editorials to the ones that don't cover the schools.

And the fact there was every opportunity to write this after 2018 as well. We had Moorhead, momentum, the #1 defense in the nation, recruiting was picking up....and Ole Miss had Matt Luke.

But that never happens with the CL. And we have this from our rules...

I believe the narrative after that particular Egg Bowl was the rivalry was toxic and might need a break. After the fight that OM players started. Funny that the rivalry is only “toxic” when State is winning.

I mean Texas is the Ole Miss of the state of Texas. Very high opinion of themselves, despite not having earned it in years. Not quite as many years of ineptitude as Ole Miss, but at least as great a divide from who they are to who they think they are. It's been a while since the horns hooked anyone except their delusional fan base...

That would be a good rule if you were trying to have a good paper. But I at least understand that having a good paper doesn't pay the bills anymore and that it's probably not realistic to have a paid beat reporter for each school and then pay a separate sports opinion writer.

However, once you've given up on the possibility of having a good paper by historical standards, I agree it makes no sense to sell out standards in a way that costs you revenue. If you are going to have your beat writers double as opinion writers, at least limit beat writers to writing positively about their team and negatively about the other teams. Or what would probably be even better, start outsourcing your opinion to people that will write basically for free. They could get better quality writing and analysis by just offering to publish opinion pieces from fans. There are clearly enough people on different fan sites that would write for free and can't be any worse than what is already being written. Which makes sense as outside of a very few smart people that just have a passion for journalism and go into knowing it's likely a terrible financial decision compared to their other options, journalism isn't even attracting our mediocrities anymore, much less our best and brightest.

Remember how he bashed Kyler Murray for homophobic comments he made in high school? Then someone else went back and looked at Horka's high school tweets and found something homophobic (or something else bigoted)? He apologized but then also said something about how his wasn't as bad because he was messing around with his friends.

I don't understand why an opinion writer is needed anyway. I may have a different opinion but also I don't see why the major networks think they have to give opinions on anything either. I don't want to hear why CNN hates Trump or why FOX hates (or used to hate) liberals. It just doesn't make any logical sense why you would go on the air (or put something in print) that is going to piss off a large % of your viewership or readership. I frankly don't watch any of them anymore for that 1 reason. Just give me the facts as they exist and let me form my own opinion Horka, I don't give a rats *** about what you think or why you think it, just report stats and news and keep your horse **** opinions to yourself. That's why I quit following you and your overpriced piece of garbage newspaper. Get off my lawn and turn your damn hat around!!!

You are very much in the minority. The opinion pieces are the least valuable parts of the paper to society, but they're what people largely want to read. Sports is one of the few sections where people actually want the straight news as much as the opinion pieces, but people still want the opinion pieces also (hence the popularity of all the sports websites that are basically blogs with nothing but opinion content).
