Our media is such garbage. Calling him a bigot because he called the virus from China the Chinese virus?

I get that it's hard to write interesting stories day after day and it's easier to make up things to be outraged over, but it's tiresome.

Worse than that, he said he has a "penchant for bigotry" and then proceeded to back that up with exactly nothing.

No need to back it up. He’s universally famous for blatant age discrimination against all males 0 to 39 years old.

Not a bigot, but it's still wrong, as in incorrect. I missed a question on an intro to wildlife class at State when I called a Canada Goose a Canadian Goose... I could not prove citizenship to make it Canadian.

Anyhow, I would go with the China Coronavirus or as the entire world did in January, the Wuhan Coronavirus... Even CNN.

I think Trump excluding Chinese immigrants with family in the US and all residents from the travel restrictions helped with the media quite a bit.

If you called the Swine Flu the American Flu, then I'm fine with you calling this the Chinese Virus, otherwise, you're just trying to stir the pot.

Why did we call the previous diseases and “Spanish Flu” and “Ebola”?

The Spanish flu supposedly because Spain was the only country that didn't restrict reporting on it b/c of concern about the impact on morale and the war efforts, so people thought it was worse there than elsewhere. Nobody knows where it originated, but Spain called it the French flu b/c they thought they got it from France.

Ebola is for the obvious reason like the Chinese coronavirus, or "the Wuhan" for short.

Was the Swine flu ever called the American flu? If the Wuhan had originally been called the bat virus or the pangolan virus, you might have a point. Otherwise, everybody complaining about normal conventions applying to the virus from Wuhan is some combination of (1) an idiot, (2) a pedant with too much time on their hands, (3) a dupe/willing particpant in Chinese propoganda.

I will cop to being number (2) at times, so I get it, and based on my recollection of your other posts, I would guess this is where you are coming from. But I think most people are a combination of (1) & (3).

If bigot and racist weren't enough, I stopped reading at "Chinese Virus". This writer's agenda was quite obvious at that point.

I seriously doubt that anybody on this board, and possibly even Mike Gundy, has a single complaint with the Chinese people or Asians in general. Most certainly take issue with the Chinese government, however. The main problem with calling Covid the "Chinese virus" is that there are some Americans of Chinese or Asian descent that have been harassed by those who, for some reason, blame the Asian races for the pandemic.

Not sure if this is troll bait or if you just aren't very knowledgeable about history, but yes, the Spanish government and Spanish people have objected to the name for over a century.

There's also no real evidence that the spanish flu originated in Spain though. That seems like a fair objection on their part. If you've ever used terms like Ebola, Lyme, ROcky Mountain spotted fever, etc., you can't fairly complain about the Wuhan virus.

Yep! If we just called it “SARS-CoV-2” then the stupid bigots wouldn’t want to blame Asians for the pandemic!***

The percentage of liberal leaning mindsets on this board has to be higher than anywhere in the state of Mississippi.

I mean, that makes sense right? Starkville is Mississipi's most liberal city by a longshot, and this board skews young and college-educated. I would expect a Mississippi State message board to be more liberal-leaning than a generic collection of Mississippians.

An interesting Gundy tidbit. In 2007 Wes Carroll had 137 pass attempts without an interception to start his career. He was 1 pass attempt shy of tying the national records when as if on cue he found a wide open Alabama player, leaving him 1 shy of the record. The record of 138 was set by one Mike Gundy.
That day though, a play that will be ingrained into our memory forever overshadowed anything else that happened in college football that Saturday in November.

While it may be higher than anywhere in the state of Mississippi, that isn't saying much.

Also, by the count of posts withing typical national politics threads, I would say its 2 left leaning for every 8 right leaning posters.
Why that is being complained about is beyond me.

Our media has never had a problem with that term. Ever.

my Spanish sucks, so I can’t really speak fluently to what they might have said.
