Great game from Derek.

Looked a little better on that ankle today. Definitely needs to be in the game at free throw time.

[laughing] Yeah, thank you, Willis. Who cares about Ulis, Murray, Briscoe and the rest of the team.

No one is saying that they don't deserve props. They're getting plenty.

Willis gave us something that none of our other big guys could, and we needed it badly. His rebounding and interior defense turned the tide. He deserves serious credit.

Well, we needed someone other than a guard to play ball. Poy came on strong late, too.
Yes, they did, and Willis had a damn good game and was able to give UK some of that. He played very well, did his job and what is expected of him. That's where it ends.

He didn't have some spectacular game or single handily win the game that warrants a personal thank you, nor does he deserves to be put on a pedestal above the rest of the team.

I think Willis and Alex turned the game. Tyler and Murray kept us in the game but we needed other guys to step up, especially on defense.

Willis started grabbing rebounds, blocking shots. The free throws he hit were just gravy.

Knew he had some big plays, but I didn't realize he had that good of a game. I was down a bit after hearing his ankle wouldn't be 100 percent until next season, but if he can do that, it's all good in the hood.

I literally had no idea Willis was shooting 92% on the season from the free throw line. Man, I love that !

I know people have been going back and forth all year about Willis, and I've not been a part of it. Thankfully.

But this post is ridiculous. As in, you deserve to be ridiculed for it.

This is a message board about UK Basketball. If people can't congratulate one of our players for helping us get a big win, I'm not sure WTF any of us are doing here.

Take a step back and try not to be so terrible in the future. TIA.

Sure, you're right. Willis deserves a personal thank you thread started in his honor and to be put up on a pedestal above the rest of the team for doing his job, things that other players do on a nightly basis.

I agree, he had a very good game, never said he didn't. He also played a big part in the comeback, but the Willis cheerleading that goes on on this board is a bit much. It's as if nothing else matters as long as Willis gets his minutes and/or plays well. Some of these guys are bigger Willis fans than they are UK fans.

Even if that is true, why pick a thread that is not really what you are railing about? It is the typical post game thread for players that did well. Maybe you need a Snickers.

This^^^

Is there any other player, upon receiving a compliment, that ALWAYS has -someone- rushing to post something that tries to knock it down a peg or two?

Willis did great. I'm happy for him. We will need him for the NCAAT... and, yes, all of the rest of the guys, too.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

IMO it was a combination of willis, alex and briscoe. Alex gave us HUGE buckets down low when we needed them. I kept thinking he was trying to assert himself as the post option Cal says we need to compete. Willis gave up quite a few offensive rebounds in the second half and got caught with his hands down on a few Georgia 3's but he did have a huge block and a couple big shots. Briscoe had about a great a game as we could ask. 4-8 from the field, made his FT, rebounded well.

When it seemed Murray took a step back in the second half with his aggression, those 3 stepped up. I think Poy in the post and Briscoe playing Iso ball a few times were the biggest difference makers.

Willis looked good today. His rebounding got much better late in the game. Guards get all the praise for UK and deservedly so but UK doesn't win today without the contributions of Willis and Poythress in second half.

AP lit the spark with the 3 jump hooks. Willis and Briscoe finished off what Murray and Ulis started. Proud of everyone digging deep for the W!

What exactly is wrong with the op? We are nowhere without Ullis, Murray and Poy but there have been tons of threads praising (and bashing) them.

Come on now.
No disrespect meant for anyone else.
But when we were down, Willis blocked a freaking DUNK.
He was key to the comeback. I M H O.
Possible play of the game and best block of the year. It went out to Murray who was maybe 1-2 feet off the 3 pt line
