I have to admit Texas could be a force with Herman leading the ship. I’ll always bust your chops but it look like the Longhorns are back.

What does this have to do with WV?

The longer the Texas staff stays intact the deeper the roots are entrenched. But the issue will be picking the correct players. You would much rather wait until the last minute and get your recruiting class all locked in on signing day but that is impossible
To go back on your attack in another topic against WV there is thing called evaluations. Right now is the best time to really see what players are peaking and what players are not. The difference between 16 and 18 is huge. Seen a lot of players drop from Top 40 to around 1000 nationally.
There is a DT in Texas like that in Branard Wright.
Arkansas wouldn't even take his commitment last week.

Texas has always had top athlete's. The problem has been never meeting their expectation. Perhaps it has to do with coaching perhaps not. Buying into a coach and the plan is perhaps the most difficult thing for a coach to get them into it. Evaluation for me is if the player is striving to go above and beyond hi so called peaking status Just look at basketball player Jevon Carter. He worked his *** off and improved every year. There is no such thing as peaking IMO. If an athlete wants it, they should continue to go get.

I like busting Texas frauds chops as well. It's oh so easy.

It is evaluation when you have 10-15 players to pick from.
It isn't just exclusive to Texas. Look at Florida State.
But it looks like Texas' staff is much better at evaluating.
Charlie Strong picked the wrong fruit a lot of the time.

Tyler Owens was a great example last cycle.
They missed another one in Baylor Cupp
This cycle it looks like Kitan Crawford.
Crawford could end up a 5 star CB. Started as a fringe recruit but is jumping up the charts.

Can go back to 2018 with Rondale Moore.
Texas is at the point that they aren't losing those players.

Moore was ranked like the 30th best WR but Texas had him #1 slot.
Even over Jaylen Waddle.

Charlie Strong kicked off half the team of troubled players. Cleaned the spoiled beef out of the freezer.

That only works if you can replace them and Charlie Strong's track record wasn't that great.
He did find some players like Connor Williams and Charles Omenihu but there were a lot of misses.
Especially on the DL. A bunch of fat guys.

Not saying the current staff hasn't missed but so far it has been at a much lower rate.
Supposedly the staff was high on Etienne at UH but couldn't get him.
Brought in Toneil Carter but missed on Eno Benjamin.
Carter transferred to Sam Houston

As bad as Dana was during game day his staff did a pretty decent job at WV in their evaluating.
WV for the most part had a Top 15 roster last year.

A WVU roster that performed below expectations. As par for Dana football. He will get to play some easy teams now and look like he's the greatest coach of all time. He should never have been hired at WVU in the first place. He should have been groomed in G5 or lower first.

Whose expectations?

Yours
The media

Obviously Dana's because Holgersen had to put himself out there.
It is great to have high expectations but it is better to have expectations based on the current situation.

If you looked at Oklahoma State you knew that game was trouble for WV.

They went 2-1 against Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
Their lone loss was by 1 point because of a failed 2 point conversion
Oklahoma St could have easily beat OU as well. This was in Norman and not Stillwater.

They did end up as a top 15 team before the bowl game.
Winning the Big 12 and being in the CFP...
I never saw that with West Virginia last year.
