No clue what was the best, but dook at dook a couple years back was a top 10 NET team when we beat them.I’m drawing a blank, but is Coach Banghart’s best road win the Arizona victory in the NCAA tournament?
That’s exactly right. No clue what was the best, but dook at dook a couple years back was a top 10 NET team when we beat them.
But we’ll get there. We’re really young. After playing UCLA and TX, we have a way to go.
Like you I thought we almost became afraid to take 3’s as the game went on. E passed up a wide open shot from the top of the key. That old football saying ‘fatigue makes cowards of us all” may appply. When you are getting pushed, shoved, grabbed by players as big and strong as TX that’s got to wear you down. And that’s why TX is #2 and maybe should be #1.So much with this game. A lot to be encouraged by but a lot that I hope we don’t see again (unforced turnovers namely). I remain encouraged though. Texas’s top 7 players are on par and probably more consistent than any other 7 in the country right now. Our team this year also has the highest ceiling of any recent team we’ve had.
But what I struggle to understand is our approach to offense (play calls, lineups, and tactics) when we get bogged down and start digging ourselves into a hole. Early in the game we clearly had success getting to the rim, so I get wanting to keep trying that, especially when we also clearly struggled shooting it. But it’s very frustrating to see them just forcing the same things over and over when it’s stopped working and not trying to change things up to find a new rhythm.
So many plays where we’d just drive and try to force it to the rim for a contested layup or would get stuck and not be able to pass it out. It’s like we forgot about a floater or a jump stop and pull up in the lane (see Jordan lee’s short 2’s she drained). And we got very scared to shoot it from outside. I get that but we need to stay confident and keep shooting it like the next one is going in to get back on a streak.
Hard to know but it’s hard to see much by way of in game adjustments aside from what happens at halftime (which is often effective against lesser opponents). Or if there are adjustments being called out, it’s not anything that works well enough to revive the offense and pull them back in a game like this. This has always been the case against top teams and why I think we haven’t had that breakthrough yet.
Also think we get in our head too much with what seems like a lot of prep/focus on specific offensive tactics designed for top opponents like this going into the game. I’m all for a good amount of prep but wondering if we might be overdoing it which takes us out of the usual free flowing game that we typically play. You can feel how bad we want to win a big game, but that pressure we put on ourselves is heavy and can’t help.
Let’s get back to playing freely, making plays in rhythm and having fun!
Not sure if Louisville was ranked last year when we beat them on the road but that was a great team.I can't remember the last time we got a ranked win on the road
Question - As a casual observer, I’ve seen the women’s team get blitzed by better teams for a few years.
My question is…. Is there hope to be had under Courtney Banghart or is she the kind of coach that will only get you so far??
With Kate coming in and most of the key players returning from this team, we’ll see next year how far we can ago.Question - As a casual observer, I’ve seen the women’s team get blitzed by better teams for a few years.

That’s why we sync the ESPN broadcast up with Matt Krause on either Chapelboro.com or the Varsity Network when we can. Much rather listen to nothing than ESPN announcers.ESPN basically has an iso cam on the Texas coach and have mentioned him by name well over a dozen times. Meanwhile you would think UNC brought their club team with no coach.
