I'm not in the camp that wants Cal gone and think with his resume he deserves at least one more season to show if he can adapt, change his philosophy a bit and turn things around.

The man can still be a very good coach if his stubbornness and pride didn't get in the way.

But I am also at the point to where if another team did show interest, I wouldn't be nearly as worried about losing him as I would have been a few years back. More of an "Oh, well, probably was time to move on." mindset.

In the hypothetical scenario where Cal went to another school, watch him suddenly get all the top recruits again... Seems like it would just be our luck. Haha.

This sort of sentiment baffles me. Everyone- it's universal here- agrees that change is urgently needed. And yet some are more than willing to pin their hopes on a guy who they concede is limited by "stubbornness and pride."

Yes, it's understood that for better or worse, Barnhart has tethered us to Calipari ad infinitum. It's still amazing that some have faith that this leopard (who's no spring chicken lol) can change his spots.

Oh...He definitely would initially. It would be somewhat of a refresh period where there was a rebuild of hype.

Texas is too "clean" for Cal. Hell, some fans want nothing to do with Sampson of UH. It seems most have their eyes on Beard, even Musselman from Arkansas.

Kitchen sink better be a big one - that buyout I would assume is not just if UK wants to let him go - it's also there to prevent other teams from coming in and taking him away.

Actually, Beard has HIS eye on the Texas job. Apparently it's his dream job and where he ultimately wants to end up.

One thing is sure and I don't even think this is real....but the University of Texas has more than enough money to buy Cal out and then some.
Talk about a school with Alumni and very deep pockets. The only thing is, how interested they are about basketball in general. Cal would be an upgrade from Smart for sure.
They have their own network for goodness sake.

I'm on a Texas board quite often, feels that Beard is fine being at Tech, has family/roots there. But with both His and Shaka's buyout may be too much given they just spent money on getting rid of Herman. Another name popping up there is former player and current NBA Asst Royal Ivey but he has no prior HC experience, so I'd be surprised if they went that way.

Forget the kitchen sink, they would have to throw about 15 million dollars at him per year. After the UCLA scare, there’s no chance another school lures Cal away to coach. When he walks away, it’s either going to be retirement, an NBA executive job, or athletic director. Cal would have to step up to step away at UK with his salary.

I agree but I mean... Is Calipari worth a $52 million buyout plus...what? $10-$12 million a year? This Calipari ? The last 6 seasons Calipari?

Well, we all know what happened last time another school had interest in Cal. Sounds like he is about to get another raise and maybe his buyout will be raised to around 100 million.
I'm like everyone else. tired of the boring offense, no in game adjustments, same switching man to man and getting beat to the rim time and again. In saying that you better think who will be doing the hiring if he leaves. Remember B C G the baseball coach girls basketball coach, that worries the hell out of me.

No.

It is NOT universal here.

Just recently there was a poll on this site.

It was close, but the majority chose to keep Coach Cal.
