I'm seeing they're 0-2 to start the SEC and you know they need a win badly. My hope is that they'll give up if we punch them in the mouth early.
Don't think they will give up. BW's teams always fight to the end. That game will get ugly. They will be very physical and if the Cat't defense isn't better UK will take a loss.

Or at least insert him sooner than 5-7 minutes into the game. Last night I was wondering what the heck was going on when it was almost 5 minutes in and Reed was still in warmup jacket on the bench.

Of course, as you likely know, Cal squashed any chance for Reed or Rob starting in his press conference recently. Edwards is the one player that should NOT be starting, but Cal keeps forcing that square peg into a round hole. 14 games in and Edwards has not shown me any improvement, at least not anywhere close to even a 1st or 2nd round pick. But there he is, starting, every game...
Why??? Just shut up for the love of basketball, shut up about Edwards and Reeds minutes. Please. Cal is doing this right and he’s surrounded by great assistants, please let them do their job.

So far most teams know that we have spurts and droughts, so I'd be surprised if any of them gives up, even if we're up 20. We've shown way too often that we are completely capable of letting teams back in it. 14 pt lead last night, down to 3. 14 point lead against KU, lost the game. A few others were double digit leads that were dwindled quickly to single digits.

Florida is a WAY better team than A&M, and the crowd won't be any louder or rowdier than it was in Gainesville. I think we romp.
Its their tough defense & physical place that will be a problem.

Agreed. I hope our guys are expecting the game to be rough, to get pushed and grabbed and also for the referees to let it go on our end and make calls on us on the other end. It's just the SEC on the road. Expect it. You're gonna have to earn every point and you're gonna have to keep pushing through, not looking for calls, because they're not likely coming.
Think Gainesville x 2/3

We were up in both SEC games before Reed and rob checked in.

Reed plays 25 minutes. Edwards 18.

Who cares who starts.
Maybe everyone wants production out of all five positions once in a while, just to see what it actually looks like. Cal is pushing Edwards on the floor to start based on what? Nobody is bashing him we just want to see a start like the old 35 to 8 games when the ability and players are on this roster. You knock teams out before they ever get it going.

Becoming a trend to wait until 14:00 to go in the half before putting Reed/Dilly into the game. Have noticed that in both Florida and Mizzou games.
Reed and Rob were in before the first media timeout in Florida, 16:05 mark. They didnt come in after the media timeout vs Missouri because WE WERE ON FIRE offensively. We had 19 points in 5 minutes and 50 seconds.

Yep, you're right about that. There is no denying it. The team was playing well and making shots. I've been suggesting that Sheppard and Dillingham need to start also, and that the team has had slow starts without them. But... that didn't happen against Missouri. So, I understand why Cal left the starters in a few more minutes.

I'm fine with Sheppard and Dillingham not starting so long as the team is winning. We want those other guys to continue to grow in confidence and improve. Wagner has definitely been improving. He's scoring at the rim now on drives and doing it consistently. I feel like he could do that almost anytime he wants. Edwards is improving as well, just not as quickly as Wagner. As I say, I'm fine. Play it by ear. If the team is playing well, let them play. If they're looking terrible, get those guys in. 👍

We started the game 6-8, including 4-6 from 3, and scored 16 points in 4 minutes.

Name one coach in AMERICA that would sub someone out and mess with that rhythm when we were on the roll that we were on?

What exactly was your issue with the first 5 minutes that you think we so desperately needed to sub?
Name one coach that would do that? Calipari himself, of course. He did just that in the Kansas game after Dillingham hit four straight shots.

First of all- Cal pulled Rob out at the 2:24 mark in the first half because he picked up his THIRD FOUL. Just to clarify- not his 2nd foul, his THIRD foul- Would you have left a freshman remain in to pick up his 4th foul before halftime? Again....no coach in AMERICA would do that. Most coaches wouldn't have even let him keep playing with two, but Cal did.

But let's not let facts get in the way of a good narrative, right?

And all I heard was admitting it's a bad idea to pull out a hot lineup after the hot start against UF and Mizzou.

Wait wait wait. You're in favor of not subbing during a run, but you never complain when Shep gets subbed OUT during a run? And you aren't in favor of Shep starting a game when he almost always gets us into a run? The mental gymnastics some of you leap to in order to defend Cal is staggering.

Well, the video and the actual play-by-play link say it was his SECOND foul. That's a groovy narrative though that you're selling, especially when it isn't really true.

Regardless Cal doesn't let anybody play with 2 fouls in the first half. If he does it's groundhog day.

What on earth are you talking about? Like seriously- I am so confused.

If we are on a run and he subs out Shep- YES, I will absolutely complain and say that was foolish. I mean seriously- what makes you think I WOULDN'T complain about that?

If we are on a run and hot, leave that lineup in! Unless a guy asks to come out or foul trouble. It's THAT SIMPLE. You are doing mental gymnastics just randomly making up a scenario and accusing me of not being against it- super bizarre.

If that scenario happens, I will absolutely, 100% complain that he shouldn't take Shep out.

It's not that difficult @Mike-McD

.Well so below is the official box score which lists Rob for 3 fouls in the first half (below) but I think one of them was actually Rob GETTING fouled and it listed it wrong, so that is confusing but I will admit that.

Official Box Score

And even if it WAS 2, my point remains- he picked up his 2nd foul, and THAT is why Cal pulled him out- foul trouble.

You acting like Cal just pulled him for no reason is what was incorrect here.

Foul trouble and a guy asking to be pulled out is the only reason a player should be subbed during a big run by a group. This fell into the foul trouble category.

But at the end of the day- we AGREE! Don't sub when the current group is on a run (except for foul trouble like Rob in KU game, or someone asks to come out), which is why it took 5-6 mins for him to sub against Mizzou, so idk what the argument is for at this point

This game may boil down to which coach is hungry.

Buzz could do it, but UK is a special team this year. Lets hope we win this saturday.

They will get well when Kentucky comes to town, there's always extra motivation for the cats to contend with. From free pizzas to t shirt night to bring back basketball greats from the past Kentucky gets everybody's best shot.

Yep! It’s absurd! I can’t stand the way Cal plays his rotations sometimes! Edwards hasn’t done **** all season really. Nothing to deserve a starting spot.

Great point.

I've been worried about this since they lost their 2nd SEC game. They're gonna be fired up because it's UK. They're gonna be extra fired up because they don't want to start 0-3 in Conference.

I would expect them to punch us in the mouth early like Florida did. Gotta withstand the punches and continue to play quality basketball when things aren't bouncing our way.

This will be a tough one. Really hope we can pull it out so we move into the top 5. Pulling this out after the Florida game last week I think really says UK is legit.

Agreed. I'm not sitting here advocating that Reed and Dillingham start as much as I'm dumbfounded as to why Edwards starts every game, while getting a wildly long leash. He's not improved at all in my eyes, yet still gets the start. I don't care who would replace him, just stop putting him in as a starter when he's far from worthy. Let him come off the bench and prove he deserves to start.

And furthermore, I'm all on board and rooting for him to bust out, but we are 14 games in and he's not shown any hint of a bust out. And by this I mean a huge spurt where he scores 20 and leads the team like Reeves, DJ, Shep and Dillingham have. Then keeps it up and becomes a threat.

The rest of the team and starters I'm fine with, and I'm fine with who comes off the bench (although Cal's timing can be frustrating).

That is exactly what needs to happen !!! Hit them hard right off the bat....run them and gun them...demoralize them into accepting the fact the Cats are a superior team....

My two cents!
