Testing seems to be a huge bottleneck

I know a guy that got tested 7 days ago and is still waiting for results.

Another problem is that people like the Atlanta mayor aren’t quarantining themselves after getting a test, but waiting for the results instead.

Seems like we didn’t do a whole lot of capacity expansion for testing or beds in the flatten the curve period

Most people around here in North Mississippi are getting their test back in a day or so... I think a lot depends on what lab the facility is using... also, there seems to be some bogus test floating around as well... I would be cautious on going to the local Nurse Practitioner for a Covid test... no telling who they may be using for a lab.

Awful. This should have been the priority from day 1 as a country. What a failure.

A lot of stuff - simple stuff - should have been priorities from day 1. I saw the photos of how they altered Disney World and saw that it's how practically everything should have been changed.

We had over a hundred other countries who were dealing with the same thing but with different strategies to learn from, but we chose not to.

I know a guy that got tested this past Monday and did not get results back until Friday. He went to the Urgent Care in Starkville and they made it sound like they sent their test in to Jackson to get results.

All of that is inexcusable. My friends and friends parents who have gotten tested all seem to be getting their results in about 4 days, which is still at least 2 days too long.

The delay time for results is varying dramatically by test location - I went to my company's mini med clinic Wednesday 7/01 with a relatively severe respiratory infection. I was test for COVID there & sent to St Dominic's where I was admitted for about 36 hours. I was tested again for COVID early on the morning of Thursday 7/02 at St D. I got the results from the test @ St D within 6 hours (8:00 AM 7/02), but I did not get the results from the test at our Clinic until Wednesday 7/09. Both results were negative & we were told the lab that handles our Clinics test was backed up over the holiday weekend. Our company also spent $7K last week to insure that we would be able to turn the tests in 24 hours going forward.

I got tested Tues, June 30 (symptom free, but had been possible exposure), by Thurs, July 9 I still had not been called by my doc. I already knew I was clear though because I had signed up for the patient portal with LabCorp cause I knew that is who my doc outsourced our labwork to. I knew on Tues, June 7. I had been checking the website daily. It did take a week for them to complete the test and post the results but I still got them way before my doc did. If you are waiting, sign up, the delay may be in notification from your doc. This same week I knew of people in town who got their test back in a day. I think it's just a real crap shoot.

ETA: My work demanded I be tested. I reported the "POSSIBLE" exposure to them out of an abundance of caution and they made me take it. Since we are working a couple days a week in the office I didn't have a choice. I thought they might just make me stay home for 14 days and telework like we have been but no. Honestly, will make me more careful what I report, not my actions because I've been taking all the safety measures already.

Some people are getting positive test results back before they have had test performed....i.e. filled out online form and did not show up for test or got tired of waiting and magically get emailed a Covid positive result a few days later.

People in Desoto County are waiting 5+ days for results.

This is the biggest issue we are facing with this. People with symptoms take the test and go home with orders to take ibuprofen for fever. Then five days later, usually after the worst symptoms come and go, the test results come back. That's unacceptable. How many who end up hospitalized could have been prevented by getting earlier treatment?

if you go to Baptist in Jackson for anything ER or whatever, they started rapid testing Friday - results back in one hour. And it's a swab of the tip of the nose - no more sticking it into your back of you eyelids

I don't care to know if i have it. Just because I test negative today doesn't mean I don't come into contact tonight and have it tomorrow or the next day or the next. The test is just an snap shot for today. I do want to know if I have the Antibodies. That is there to stay. As far as we know now but as much as all the experts change what they say that could change as well.

I had to be tested a few weeks ago, in Starkville at an urgent care clinic. Was tested on a Tuesday, did not get my results back until Saturday (I was negative thankfully). We now think it was food poisoning or some kind of stomach bug, I had a 101 fever on and off for several hours but I felt fine within 24 hours and could've gone back to work on Thursday had my results gotten back by then, but instead I had to stay at home two extra days even though I felt fine just because I was waiting on results.

All seems like a gigantic lack of leadership and being proactive by states and the federal government. We are 6 months into this. Each state region should have a **** ton of testing equipment sitting there gathering dust, because our leadership should be repeating every damn hour that people should reduce going into public, wearing mask, keeping 10 feet from the next guy, limit sitting indoors in public, and no group meeting larger than 10 people.

Just cause you test negative doesn't mean you don't have it. The false negative rate is anywhere from 30-40% with the nasopharyngeal swab.

If I got sick I would get tested. I just don't want a random test. I would love to be tested for the Antibodies. It is my understanding if you donate blood they will test the blood for it.

Mom and dad waited 5 days. My 2 year old niece had to wait 3 days...she had started going back to school.....that means 30 other kids had to be tested...parents...teachers....it’s been super ****** on the family 40. Grandmas still going strong after beating it. Not one hiccup since.

My take, not to bash, but we have botched the **** out of this.

Our nations leadership from top to bottom has lost its Boy Scouts. Had some of our granola eating leadership gotten from behind the desk to do some “field work” over the flat..data crunchers, city planners, engineers.....maybe we would “Be Prepared” in these situations. It is a situation that WAS being handled with a SUPER conservative approach...which failed.....and now we are scrambling. You know who never scrambles anything but an egg......A Boy Scout.

I’m on day seven. Still waiting still quarantined

Good news is when you get the results you will be all clear either way.**

For the record it sucks that you have to be in guessing/worrying mode for that long.

YMMV, but blood donations here in central Iowa dont test. Its specifically mentioned on the paperwork you sign.

Not too worried. If I have it, it is very mild. Had to get tested because of exposure coupled with mild symptoms. Required maybe less time than it takes to get the results.

I've been saying this for weeks. I have so many friends who have run out and gotten tested. They had no complaints and were asymptomatic. So why go get the test? They proclaim "we got tested and we're negative...….!" I've responded by saying "so do you plan to get tested weekly or will you just stay shut in at home now until there's a cure........?"

I truly don't get it.

There was just a local Covid news conference (happens 3 days a week - used to be 5 or 6) and the hospital CEO said 5-7 days here. They send most tests out to a lab. They have the machines for fast testing in house but are allocated fewer cartridges (or whatever they're called) to suffice. He also said around 200 staff members at Huntsville Hospital are out either with Covid, waiting on test results, or a family member they live with has Covid. Staffing is becoming an issue. Cases have increased locally by 150% since July 1.

I got tested this morning. Was told that it is taking Miss Dept of Health from 7-10 days to get the results to me. My wife is still waiting on the results of her test 8 days ago-she is as sick as I’ve ever seen her, including the 8 rounds of chemo she took for breast cancer.

I saw on the news earlier that in Dallas the Federally run testing sites are taking 8-10 days, but the locally run sites with private labs are only taking 2-3 days. The county asked the feds just to supply the reagents and let local officials handle everything else.

Showed up at work this morning and was told we had just gotten our first testing kits. Tested two people; both results came back within 30 minutes. And the swab wasn’t quite as long. I was pleasantly pleased. Almost felt guilty knowing how that’s not the case everywhere. One of my consistent thoughts since March has been how much of a mess this will be if we don’t have widespread accurate RAPID testing by next flu season.
I get regular updates from our system and the MSDH, so I get info on the intricacies of the testing process; but I still have a hard time understanding why there’s so much variation across the board in types of tests and length of time to run the tests.

That's such a big issue now - people aren't reporting the stats in a consistent way which leads to people guessing and spreading misinformation. It's not that hard to simply report # of test, # of positive, demographics and updated hospital, ICU and death numbers. Not sure we need much else than that.

Bc they were smart enough to look at the underlying data?

The expert in the article you posted is a Dermatologist.... why would a reporter use a Dermatologist as a Covid expert?

It shouldn't take more than a high school education to notice the obvious omission of negative results instead of jumping straight to the suggestion of shenanigans.
