Fidone and Honas out for season

Not fall camp related, but impactful to the 2021 season. I would still say injury situation is really good at this point

You have three game ready Big Ten level ILB without Honas so that position is still in good shape.

Fidone injury sucks and hurts depth but with Allen and Vokelek he was going to be used mostly in a handful of special packages and to provdide depth as he isn't quite big enough yet to be highly effective blocker unless he is split out. Carnie and Rollins aren't chopped liver either so there are players there.

I would still argue from a health and depth perspective we are in good shape from injury perspective assuming that Allen and Corcoran are day to day.

so true. Other schools get production out of their TEs. Run after catch. Ours run to a spot, turn around and either catch it and fall down or whiff entirely. It has not been a strength.
Its called throwing the ball in a place that enables your receiver to catch it and keep running, not dive, jump or slide.

Two weeks the injuries situation actually seems good to me.

- Two starters that are dressing but limited
- 2nd team tight end out 4-6 f(Back by OU and full Big Ten)
- No season ending injuries at this point

100% take that, we are in great shape on injury front at this point.
That's fair, although this ignores that we already lost Honas and Fidone for most if not all of the season

I like how you downplay the loss of Fidone since you know for certain he was only going to be used in a handful of special packages and noting he isn't big enough to block. But contrast that with Carnie and Rollins who aren't chopped liver so I assume they are good? So to summarize, losing Fidone is not that big of a deal because the other two lower rated kids are going to get the job done in all situations, just not the hand full of special plays. OK, gotcha

Its not the end of the world because he is a true freshman who was third on the depth chart and will be back this year. I would love to have him the whole season and believe he could help the team but there are atleast 20 other guys more important for 2021 results.

This is football and people get hurt. So far we are in pretty good shape injury front.

if not a single starter is out for the season yet then its going as good as it possibly could. better than average. Most schools i would guess will lose at least a couple starters before the season even begins.

Oh no I agree. Those 2 out for season should be injuries we can handle this year. I agree I think we are relatively in a decent spot so far with injuries. Was just pointing those out

The fact is it is going to be (hopefully) a much longer season this year. The difference between winning 6-8 games versus 4-5 is narrow. One play here or there from veterans or playmaker could easily make a difference when the margin is so small. Even small, miss a game or two injuries, will add up on top of these season and long term injuries. Simply, this team cannot afford them.

Frost said Vokolek is nicked up. He won't be out for an extended period of time.
The coaches were just giving Austin Allen a little time off.

That could still mean over 2 weeks which would miss the Illini game. Not saying he will but Frost won't tell the extent of an injury unless they are out for the season.

Frost almost slipped on divulging what his injury was. Said someone had an appendectomy, but wouldnt confirm who.

can go watch the post practice interview from today.

How's your team doing on that front?

I don't miss much about Mike Riley, but for those with enquiring minds (including possibly opposing coaches) he got up to the lectern every week and gave a detailed injury report. Frost is the exact opposite, almost to the point of being paranoid about it.

The app wasn't Allen or Vok acc to 247. Think it's a walk on.

This is why we can't have nice things. We keep breaking our toys. Time for some kids to grow up fast.

We have an incredible number of injuries in practice. Makes me wonder if in our S&C we don’t have enough C. When you read about our players one theme you keep seeing is “plagued by injuries” even though they have never played in a game. Tate wilderman is a good example.

Are we doing enough stuff to increase flexibility, or it is just power?
