..is playing really well in the playoffs! Really fun watching him now. Kevin McHale gave him huge props last night after the game. He isn't starting now, Josh Smith is, but he is finishing most games on the floor and giving the Rockets a ton of energy. He has really upped his defense too, had a couple of fantastic steals and finishes last night and is rebounding like crazy.. He has been matched up with Blake Griffin a lot and that's a big assignment, but he has handled it well. Griffin was killing them last night in the first half (22 points), but Jones was effective in slowing him down in the second half (only 8 points in the half) and that allowed the Rockets to come back and win the game.

Jones ended up in the NBDL a few times in his first couple of seasons. He has missed 49 games this year with a variety of bizarre injuries. But he has fought through all of it to become a major player for the Rockets. He is a great example for young players to hang in there and do whatever it takes.

He is one of the most under appreciated players to ever put this uniform on.

during the 2011 season...I had courtside seats for the games at the Connecticut casino. it was pretty awesome...but I got to see, even against crappy teams...the pounding jones would take in the paint. loved him before those games....but got a new appreciation for what he did for that team.

McHale cost the Rockets game 1 by giving Smith too much clock. His wild erratic play, god awful free throw shooting, combined with poor defense against Blake burned the Rockets the entire 4th quarter.

Looks like McHale corrected his error. Not surprised to see Jones help lead the rockets to a W.

Jones was overlooked a little during the 11'-12'season because of AD and MKG, but he was a guy that also made a lot of WOW plays for that team as well. Underrated part of his contribution that year was his defense. He also had a lot of blocks that kind went unnoticed because of AD. Glad he is getting props from his coach.

I would as well, TJ was a beast and everybody on here was hyping up WCS when he was half the player that Jones was.

Good post, but a small correction, Jones actually is starting and has been the whole series. Josh Smith generally comes in after 3 or 4 minutes to relieve him. Good to see another former Wildcat starting for a playoff team!

Let's not act like TJ didn't disappear on occasion.

He did so less frequently than WCS.....but he most certainly did not worldbeat every single game.

Terrence had a mid-season swoon both years at UK. He also had a very memorable ("selfish mother...") interaction with Cal during his freshman year.

With that said, he was absolutely vital to winning the 2012 title. AD and MKG where our workhorses, but Teague, Lamb, and Jones won the title game for us. Jones in particular made two huge plays to save possessions towards the end when Kansas was making a push (or "running out of time" as Self would say).

Let's see all the stats of his disappointing games and compare them to WCS.
Let's also compare good games by both to make it fair.

It will be interesting to see who had played better. ;)

Some people on here were done with Jones after the IU game. But he showed up when it mattered. The guy was a beast in March.

Wcs doesn't deserve to be mentioned with t jones. Terrence was miles better. I would also take Terrence over Julius randle

When you watch TJ you would think that WCS would at least be at his level by his junior year maybe even TJ's fresh year. That need happened. I'm still perplexed at WCS being a 1st team all american ya he could play some D but not all the time. But I'll take it all day and were day of the week she one of our players is an all American. I'd of liked to see his stats better on blocks or rebounds to go with points to be a 1st team player.
I think he was around 12-15th (Jones) coming out if HS and you can see how good he was. I'd of liked to see some of our higher ranked players at least be somewhat close to him who were ranked higher.

The fact that wcs was first team all American will forever perplex me.

And t jones is better than randle in college.

TJ, AD, and MKG absolutely owned everything that came in the paint in the 2012 tourney. The way they manhandled opposing teams especially defensively and on the glass was pretty amazing to witness. Teams had no answer.

It was a weak field for AA this year. There's a Kyle Wiltjer thread around here somewhere for further proof.

This thread should be page 1 until cats fans realize how good t jones was here. It's absurd to think randle, wcs were better.

He did have an awful 1st half though to be fair.
