face palm. Never mind Boston. It’s just not a good look to lead a team on for about a year and then leave them scrambling to pursue a “professional” career
Well it’s not like the offer was there before he signed with UK. Then you throw in this Coronavirus situation and the uncertainty on if or when the season will even start next season and it’s going to make him rethink going to college.

That should be understandable

its not semantics. the entire premise of being a college athlete is that you are in fact NOT A PROFESSIONAL. if you expect them to act like a professional, pay them like a professional. cant have it both ways

It's not about professional or unprofessional.

It's about legal or not legal, contract or no contract, binding or not binding when it comes to signing with a school. The LOI doesnt mean sht at this point and hasn't for a while really, if it's not actually any kind of binding document. Maybe each school should have a buyout clause in the LOI, so any team interfering/influencing a player to violate the LOI would have to pay the buyout

If there's no college basketball next year, there's no gleague and no nba, and we wouldn't have an nfl or college football season. Espn would be dead. Sports networks would be dead in the water.

If these kids can get this money up front, they should take it and run. At the very least they could invest in a down market and watch it ride back up (if there's a market left).

There's no reason other than greed and power that we won't have athletics next year. If they don't start opening things back up, the least of our worries will be sports. We won't be having elections either. .

College sports and pro sports aren’t connected. Remember we are talking about student athletes. That means schools nationwide will have to be open to have a college season. In the nba there are no requirements. G league especially bc no one goes to those games anyway. May also be the nba way to try and grab a big piece of the college bb market share. Bottom line is college sports are less likely to be played than pros.

buddy, don’t do it to yourself. A top 30-50 guy is easily capable of being 1& D at UK

I'm sure it will happen at some point. And again, maybe the euro league growth will become a factor. But there's still only 60 draft spots. And the G-league is going to prove it's not some fool proof plan either. I believe we get some of those transfers to return.

I don't trust the NCAA, ever.. but I do trust they don't want to lose money.. to see a multi-billion dollar business go away. If this turns out to be as bad as you think.. the end of college ball.. then watch how quick they start paying players or working a deal with the NBA to not leech all the life out of the college game.

Yeah and I justly lost 1000 bet before. Doesnt mean I was happy about it.
He is the “talent” manager of the G League he was reaching out to Clarke regardless of what college he was signed with. Nothing to do with spite. You do realize he called several other top recruits as well right? The real sources quoted green because he is a sure thing and Clarke to draw hits from UK fans. I’d honestly be surprised if Suggs skipped college. I think Clarke is still UK bound

It's not semantics. Either pay them or don't expect them to be professionals. The pre med kids on campus can't perform your surgery.

It is semantics. Cal is teaching the kids to be professionals. Act like one. Pulling this **** is Kansas type of stuff except without the felony

For the record, I think kids have the right to go pro when they want, but it isn’t professional to do it this way.

As for the Virus, I still think that's being a bit overblown. Possibly a scapegoat when really, this is about G-League just offering more money..

Florida has approved to reopen sporting events in preparation. NBA is working on a shortened season "camp" style with limited access and exposure. The worst cities are seeing positive trends.. and it's only April. I know that college athletics have a bigger concern.. but they won't want to be losing money for long.

We can't wait around for a vaccine. Eventually people are going to die because of mental health issues, not getting their heart issues treated, etc. It will be on society to protect themselves and form their own risk tolerance.. meanwhile our hospitals will staff the right supplies accordingly and be ready.

Waaaaay too soon to even THINK there won't be a college ball season next year. Let's circle back in June.

There were big rumors for a long time last year that Whitney was going to do the G League thing.

Didn't say one word about them being "connected." I'm talking about economics, civics, and politics.

Do you really think, if this panic continues, that anyone will have any money to spend on sports, 200$ shoes, and merch? If this country is shut down to the point that we don't have college football or basketball next school year, there won't be enough money to support the pro leagues either. Think long and hard about it

This does make me back off the cliff a touch. I tell myself constantly, “it’s just a game” “they’re kids, for God’s sake” “play with your son and get off Rupp rafters” Just kidding on the last one... lol, but I’ll always take this more seriously than I should. At least I’m aware and can laugh at myself, I guess. Anyway, I’m going to bed on that note.

Great way to call it a night. The GF is in bed and our puppy has been sitting on the coach, extremely bored, while I rambled on about the NCAA and Clarke, things I can't control. Goodnight!

..I'll probably check back in, once.. maybe twice.

I feel a lot better after MJ's tweet. Still do not understand how the G League, governed by the CBA, is allowing this kind of talk? It also makes no sense that kids like TC would be targeted but Cunningham, Mobley, etc. aren't being mentioned?

You telling me kids would take Oklahoma State and USC over that kind of money? Riiiiiiiiight.

whoever pointed it out earlier. If Clarke goes to the G League and gets called up in 10 games and does well. The NBA just got a steal.
