Lot of really close matches.Final: Texas 4, State 2.
State was a point away from getting to 3 in a tiebreaker but lost on No. 6 in 3.
Here's what doesn't make sense. The US should dominate world sports. We would win at everything, and completely run the table in the Olympics every year, if it were not for one sport getting in the way. So many of our finest athletes waste their formative years through high school playing a sport that no one outside the US watches.Of the 12 players on court today, only 1 of them is from the United States. American college football players paying for the development of foreign tennis players makes no sense. Should be a foreign cap on all non revenue sports by the NCAA. Junior colleges in MS are headed this way too. Destroying American tennis one year at a time. Plus these 21, 22, 23 year old “freshman” is BS too.

You couldn’t design a worse youth sports system than the one we use in the USA if you tried. We don’t develop young players worth a sh*t.Here's what doesn't make sense. In fact it's only played in the US. And instead of kids getting better and more dominant in tennis, soccer, golf, swimming, track & field, curling, hockey, and - dare I say it? yes I think I will - BASEBALL, we are falling behind the other large nations. So many kids waste time or even worse, get injured, playing a game that no one else on earth cares about. ESPN France doesn't even carry college football games!!! So in reality, we are all sick of the false narrative. Football is not carrying all other sports - it's killing all the other sports.

This is true. We probably have the best athletes in the world across the most sports, but there are almost too many options. You couldn’t design a worse youth sports system than the one we use in the USA if you tried. We don’t develop young players worth a sh*t.

I've always wondered what 'development' really is. Like truly.....what are we prepping for? What's the end game? You couldn’t design a worse youth sports system than the one we use in the USA if you tried. We don’t develop young players worth a sh*t.
It's a very fair point. But watching college and pro football is still the best sports entertainment around. Here's what doesn't make sense. The US should dominate world sports. Why do you hate America? But we’re really good at making money off their parents
Develop better players for the professional and international level competition. Or even college level. This nonsense of traveling hundreds of miles to play 4 or 5 competitive matches every weekend does nothing to make young players any better. And charging the parents thousands of dollars to do it (plus the travel costs) just completely shuts out the poorer half of the population. Literally no one else in the world has a youth system like this.I've always wondered what 'development' really is. Like truly.....what are we prepping for? What's the end game?
Not even a niche sport anywhere but here. No one cares about football. Why are we wasting money on it?Here's what doesn't make sense. The US should dominate world sports. I'm assuming tennis is similar to baseball/soccer/volleyball as far as the travel world.Develop better players for the professional and international level competition. Or even college level. OK boomer....you want MSU or NCAA to intentionally take NOT the best players but the American players? Please tell my your thoughts on entitlement reform!Of the 12 players on court today, only 1 of them is from the United States. Yep, could you imagine if LeBron grew up playing soccer or just about any NBA player that can play both offense and defense. What about Micah Parsons playing hockey or soccer. Speed, power, athleticism. We have the athletes to compete in these global sports( we already dominate basketball on the international stage) but not enough people in the US care about these sports yet. This is true. We probably have the best athletes in the world across the most sports, but there are almost too many options.
If we were only under unitary one-party socialist republic control, we'd have these boys whipped into shape in one sport and would dominate.**
LeBron could maybe play goalie or center back. No way he could play any other position at his height.Yep, could you imagine if LeBron grew up playing soccer or just about any NBA player that can play both offense and defense. I don't know if guys of that size are quick enough side to side to play keeper, but I could see them absolutely bullying people at center back.LeBron could maybe play goalie or center back. No way he could play any other position at his height.
We have family friends with a daughter who is a highly competitive tennis player who will have D1 college opportunities. They once traveled to California to play in a USTA Juniors tournament and ended up playing someone that lived in their same neighborhood in Jackson.I'm assuming tennis is similar to baseball/soccer/volleyball as far as the travel world.
If you want to know how to produce a specific-sport athlete, you look no further than the Dominican and baseball, they punch so far above their weight it's insane. I'm sure there are other examples in other countries. What do they do? They play the game in an athletic way, all the time. There aren't many tournaments unless they are showcases for the MLB later on when they are older. Baseball by nature is a bunch of standing around so more and more games just makes it worse.
I'd say serious strength training needs to become a factor too, and one that could give Americans the edge.
Lot of folks like the status of that. Not saying your friends do, but it is a thing for sure.We have family friends with a daughter who is a highly competitive tennis player who will have D1 college opportunities. Oh I dont disagree.Lot of folks like the status of that. Not saying your friends do, but it is a thing for sure.
Lot of folks also like to see results (i.e. game action), rather than the practice or the process.
There's a reason the parents pay all the money for this stuff, and it's not all the FOMO. They enjoy it.
