If you can not see that this 8-4 season is different than the past 8-4 (or worse) seasons, then you are fooling yourself.

A big win in a bowl game against the 4th best team in a great conference like the Big Ten pretty much guarantees that Josh Dobbs is Heisman material and the boys in orange will be bringing home the nicest hardware to Knoxville.

Who cares if Dobbs can't throw in the pocket, like quarterbacks are supposed to do. It's about winning, and the Vols know how to win, as shown by their outstanding 8-4 record in the SEC East, which is the best that division has been in a long time.

*

What delusional morons. We went 8-4 this year and were significantly better than they were two years ago, when they were also "conference favorites" and had absurd hopes. Maybe we should be excited about winning a national championship next year. Idiots.

Next year? How about this year? If there was a 36 team playoff, no way they don't win**
My coworkers seriously believe they are an elite team that just got bad breaks.
ETA: how about that fake fg? Great coaching.**

Their fans are a little too optimistic. But they came very close to beating Bama in Tuscaloosa and Oklahoma needed a miracle to beat them. I would love for us to play the big teams that competitively.

National Champs- No

But you are fooling yourself if you don't think they are going to be very tough next season. Also, they play Bama and Florida in Knoxville. Don't sleep on the Vols

If you judge 2016 by 2015, I can understand their optimism (though, Dobbs as a Heisman candidate is laughable--he's good but not that good). They should have beat Oklahoma and Florida. They could have beat Alabama (at Tuscaloosa). Arkansas was the only game they struggled in (score 24 - 20, though). It's just, in my opinion, a mistake to put too much confidence in the next year based on the previous.

Tennessee is a hair away from at least a 10-2 season. They gave away two touchdown leads against both Oklahoma and Florida. They also played Alabama as tough as anybody did other than Ole Miss. They also are a young team and with more experienced should be more apt to close those type of games out. They will probably be favorites to win the East next year. If they don't, Butch may find himself on the hot seat.

They should have been 10-2 this year!

They almost beat Alabama every year since the last time they did in like 2006 or something!

They had Oklahoma on the ropes!

They beat Northeastern or whatever really bad!

I've heard all these for the past three years. Hell, I've heard all these since the Kiffin and Dooley years. They always turn out the same: 8-4 or worse. Maybe they go 10-2 in a terrible SEC East next year and give Buth Jones another raise to pay him more than Saban, but it's still not a good bet to say that it's likely at this point given the past 3, 4, 10 years.

I haven't seen anything to convince me that they can beat Florida. Florida will only get better.

Butch Jones is still on the sidelines. His poor decision making is worth AT LEAST three loses.
