The potential ceiling for UK is what is so frightening for opposing teams and fans.
Ty Ty is a true Freshman
Oscar, Grady and Wheeler are all transfers from various schools.
Mintz and Brooks are returning UK players.

My point is these guys are just starting to gel and they scored 107 pts today Jan 15 v a stellar defensive team with Oscar only contributing 9 points.

To think where this team could potentially be offensively and defensively in 2 more months with 2 games each week is freaking scary to me and Im a diehard UK fan.

Oh Captain my Captain!

Solid play from Brooks. I love it
I’ve heard this several times that Brooks is the “captain” this season. I remember Cal being adamant about not selecting captains for his teams. I’ve even heard him mention it in interviews, on more than one occasion. Just curious what changed, if Brooks is indeed, the captain.

that will likely be our peak on offense. that’s probably the best offensive display in the entire calipari era and maybe going back to the pitino days.

but if we’re nitpicking the defense left a lot to be desired.

Brooks’ first 10 games: 3 assists, 16 turnovers

His last 6 games: 9 assists, 2 turnovers.

He is making much better decisions of late which is a sign of maturity and leadership. Very encouraging!
Yeah, I agree. Brooks struggled in our early games. He would always have some strange turnovers in nearly every game, at least one. He did get called for traveling today but his contributions have outweighed his mistakes in recent games. He's becoming a very reliable mid-range scorer and even is handling the ball better and passing better. It wasn't that long ago when I didn't want him doing either of those things. His confidence is growing, which is an excellent sign.

He made a couple beautiful passes for 3 today. Very proud of him. He’s shootings the 3 himself too and made a couple recently.

Now he just needs to rebound better. It’s really frustrating to see one of the biggest guys on our team just watch the shot go up and not even attempt to fight for position. We didn’t miss enough shots in this game for that to be a factor but in close games I’d like to see him put more effort there. His passing out of the post is 1000 times better though. With the shooters we have that’s a great asset to have.

I can't tell you how happy I was to see KB jack up a 3, in rhythm, and on schedule. Just quit taking the long 2 as soon as you touch the ball.
Still took a long two with one foot inside the 3pt line (worst shot in basketball) ... corner pocket ... at least he made it!

Let's see uk win some of these rough road games coming up. Don't think we are close to peaking.
We may never have our shots fall and have the offensive avalanche as yesterday again, but… as long as we keep good habits like Brooks and everyone cutting down on turnovers. Not driving into triple teams. Playing great D, we should be okay.

Brooks was an absolute black hole the first several games of the season. He’s so much better when he just stays within himself and lets the game come to him.

I agree. Some much better decision making on his part the last couple of weeks. IMO his last two areas to address are getting into rebounding position when a shot goes up. Watching him yesterday he would be in the lane when a shot went up and someone would go to box him out and he did not make an effort to get around it or reposition. That is something I always took pride in, either sealing my man if I had inside or if they had inside slipping around them at the last minute and pushing them out. Admittedly there is an art or skill to timing it right otherwise it becomes a shoving match when you take the inside from some players. Just spin in as the ball is hitting the rim and catching them by surprise.

Other is when the ball is being passed around the perimeter Brooks still has to hold the ball longer than the other players. Just catch it and whip it. Makes it hard for the defense to shift in time as the ball travels much faster than a player can. He gives them a couple of seconds to get in position and since he's usually in the middle at the top of the key that lets the defense get centered. A position that lets them shift to the left or the right with less distance to cover.

But he has made great strides.

Meant to post something after the Vanda game about his improved passing all the sudden bc he had two really nice feeds for dunks in that one. If he's accepting his glue guy role full on going forward it is huge for the potential of this team

I wonder if Cal did it to force him to improve his performance as an example? Couldn’t hurt I guess.

Just about everyone is playing well right now.

My only fear, the ole “peaked too early” scenario.
I'm a self-proclaimed pumper, but this team will certainly hit a few potholes along the way. That's not necessarily a bad thing as long as they can continue to refine as a team and keep things going in an upward trajectory. If we can improve the defense as Cal's teams typically do as the season moves closer to March, we'll be in good shape.
