So the family and I are headed to Bermuda in a week for my daughter’s senior trip before she moves in at UNC in a few weeks. I have been told that’s it’s a very safe island and that we should feel secure in venturing away from the resort we are staying at to explore the island. For those who have traveled there is this true? Also what can’t miss sights should we check out? Thanks in advance.

My wife and I took our honeymoon there 21 years ago so my info may be dated.

I liked it a lot, it's a British property so it kind of has a British feel to it (driving on the left side of the road). They didn't allow personal transportation at that time so you have to rent a scooter or take public buses. After seeing the scooters all over the place on the ride from the airport to the resort, we quickly opted for the buses. They were fine during the day, one night we went to Hamilton for dinner and rode the bus back to the resort (probably around 9pm), it was kind of a rough crowd on the bus (there were a couple of locals who got put off the bus for being drunk) but not bad overall.

The beaches are really nice, there's some historical stuff to go see (Navy Dockyard). Our first night there we ate at a restaurant called King Henry VIII, good steak.

Hope your trip is nice & a good time with the family, we're hoping to go back sometime in the future.

The snorkeling is super. The boats and all the tours are so much more relaxed than other Caribbean islands. I always got the feeling that the Bermuda folks don't really care if you want to give them money or not. They have their own money and don't need yours.

It's a super place.

Well Bermuda did not disappoint. Such a beautiful island! We had a great week. The fishing was tremendous and the snorkeling may have been the best of anywhere I have been.
