Sounds like an ultimatum for Frost to win out.
I don’t think he has to win out, but it sounds like he has to win a minimum of one or two more to keep his job. And if he beats wiscy and iowa, I’d be willing to give him one more year. It won’t happen, but I’d be open to the idea.

direction of the program = options on the table

addressed in coming weeks = 5 W's or bye

far ahead of our skis = looking at gruden or baylor's & cincy's coach

don't think it will be too far down the road = 5 W's or bye

No decision has been made = options on the table

What makes anyone think Jon Gruden would be a good college coach? The man requires so much attention

he gets on players to produce, like saben...plus he's tired of california libs, and nfl players who gets millions then rear end folks at 100mph+ drunk out of their mind or disrespect the flag/country....but search 10 year old emails for outrage..

It means Trev got some good bites on the feelers he has put out and now they are getting buy in from boosters.

This is called conditioning. Preparing the masses for the inevitable. It's why the local beat writers suddenly went all in in Frost being gone. The University can tolerate criticism from journalists but some stuff is off limits and they can limit access to reporters and writers.

They (reporters) got the green light to start.

I give Frost a 10% chance of staying and that would involve not getting blown out by Ohio State, winning the last two, and Trev not getting his man.

Frost literally tried to drum up support for another year by asking for it to the press. Trev has already leveled with him and Frost knows it is up in the air. Frost has no one to blame but himself.

When he gets fired, people need to understand, it will NOT be a surprise to Frost or cloak and dagger. At this time Frost knows there is discussion. So when the Frost crowd start freaking out, please cling to something else.

Edit: Also, if Frost tries to pit former players or fans against the University, he is a piece of ****. Again, it is the University of Nebraska, not the University of Frost. All it does is prove he doesn't care about the University.

Funny that we would be the destination for Raiders coaches that get run out of the league. It won't be Gruden. He's not even in the conversation

Not exactly a vote of confidence for Coach Frost. But maybe that is just how I am interpreting it.

He says "no decision has made". THAT is a direct reply to all of those who say he is gone. That is all. Good heavens people need to get a grip. When he says we shouldn't "get too far out over our skis"s he is literally talking about people making wild assumptions and speculations before the season is over. This board is great at making uneducated guesses.

The president, big donors and some regents are all involved. Most are smart enough to keep their mouths shut until the AD announces the decision that was recommended by the AD and signed off by the aforementioned.

The university president of a supposed academic centered university should put up the facade that they really aren’t sure what is going on with the football program (aside from any serious off the field issues) because they have more serious matters to attend to.
He's put in a tough spot. A "no comment" would be taken as Frost is gone. A "we have faith in Frost" would be viewed as the kiss of death vote of confidence". He almost has to say something and people are going to do what they do with it no matter what he says. I might have worded it a little differently but I definitely would have told people to "slow their roll" which is what I firmly believe he was doing. Negativity is like a snowball rolling down hill picking up more speed, snow and ##it on the way down.

It may be indeed his way of indicating that no firm decision has yet been made in a definitive way to fire Frost. But his words do add fuel to the fire since it is clear that he is saying that there is a problem here. The fact is Carter did not have to say anything at all. He could have just remained silent. If he felt the need to say something given all of the controversy he could have just issued a simple statement that says "we are in the process of evaluating the football program as we do every year. No decision has yet been made about that evaluation. Thank you." And when he says that a decision will be made about the future of Nebraska football within the next few weeks it clearly indicates that a decision DOES need to be made one way or the other. In other words... he is acknowledging that there is a deep problem here that has to be addressed. He is legitimating the controversy not dousing it. And he is also clearly indicating that the decision to be made is going to be based on what happens in the rest of our season. That means ... hold on for it... Frost is coaching for his job right now. Win two of the next three and maybe he stays. Lose the next three and look bad in the process... then he is toast. Dingle I love you man, but you did the same thing at the end of the Riley era. To the bitter end you chastised the negative Nellies for being alarmists who were contributing nothing of value and so on. I admire your loyalty to whoever is the coach right now, but I place my loyalty in the program and the State, not to a coach. And Frost has been awful. You can spin this comment from Carter all you want as a statement designed to douse speculation. But unless Carter is a moron he had to know that such a comment would only increase speculation. To me, this statement therefore is not so much about dousing flames, as it is the first phase of prepping the fan base in slow increments for the changes that are coming.

The fire is already raging regardless of what he says. He was asked a direct question about Frost's future. ANYTHING he says or doesn't say will be blown way out of proportion. He could have said no comment and people would be losing their minds trying to read things in to his facial expression when he said the words. People need to R-E-L-A-X. What will be will be.

At this point in Riley's last year, I was done with Riley and ready for a change. I supported the guy until about half way through that last year. I will continue to say that we need to let things play out until the last game is over this year. It's a different set of circumstances and yes it does matter that Frost is one of our own and has succeeded at another school.

The leader of the Scott Frost Cult club is trying to act like all is rainbows and sunshine and what he said yesterday has no meaning to it.

ROFL

There is a reason why people got sick and tired of the Joe Pa cult members even after he was dead.

I am completely relaxed and I suspect most on here who say they want Frost fired are relaxed. But this is a chat board on Husker football so we, like you, are on here chatting about Husker football. And in some of that chatting some of us are expressing our sincerely held view that Frost should be fired. And I am quite relaxed when doing so. Yes ... "what will be will be." So why comment about anything then? I have seen you on here quite often speculating about this or that situation and potential eventuality. So I guess your advice for folks to "relax" and to just wait and see "what will be" is advice for others. I do not need your advice. I am quite capable of deciding when and where to post and on what topics. You always like to position yourself as "the voice of reason in an ocean of emotional crazies." And maybe you are. But I don't think so. Your knee jerk defense of the status quo (you did it in Riley's last year too) is not a voice of reason issuing cautions to the rest of us crazy people. It is just one opinion among many and of no greater value or more rational than many others.

I am NOT defending the "status quo". I have posted multiple times that people with under performing units need to go. Harry Potter's grandpa is directly responsible for our QB and Austin is directly responsible for our O line's struggles. IF I were a betting man, I would bet that those 2 guys are gone and Frost gets another year. The thing that is sad is how hysterical some people are getting over this. You let things play out. That is all. Patience.

People with underperforming units need to go. Frost is the head coach. His whole team is an underperforming unit. You can fire Harry Potter and Austin, but that is no remedy. The problem resides with the guy who hired those guys and then stuck by them even as they “underperformed”

Ultimately that might be the decision. On the other hand, it might be that Trev thinks they can fix things with some staff changes. I'm glad I'm not making the decision because no matter what he does somebody is going to be unhappy. I'll wait and see what the choice is but I still think from the drift I'm getting that it's going to be staff changes. Trev's a smart guy and he sure as hell knows football. He'll do what he thinks is in the best interest of the program without allegiance to Frost.

I too have been pondering whether or not Trev might just force Frost to fire some staff as a condition of Frost’s continued employment. I have been trying to think of examples where this approach has worked out. I can‘t think of any. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any. My memory ain’t what it used to be.

I think it is too late for that, but a prime example is Jeff Brohm this year. The fact he got a decent D Coordinator basically saved his job. If he has the same caliber of D as his previous years Purdue might not win a game this year. That switch alone gave Brohm at least 3 more years.

The last thing any coach wants is for his university president to come out in the middle of the season and comment on the coach’s job security- or in this case, the lack thereof.

It's going to be fun watching the Scott Frost cult members meltdown when Frost gets fired.

Step 1: Watch the news come in.
STep 2: Celebreate that this era is over.
Step 3: ROFL at people melting down over the worst P5 head coach in the country getting fired.
