That is a pretty ridiculous photo to assiciate with Teays Valley. I didnt realize it was even an official town. If it is that is a recent development.
It's a census designated place.I had never heard ofit being a separate toen either, just an area of Putnam County. Starts at Scary Creek and runs to at least Huricane. Included in the area is Scott Depot, Scary, and Hurricane. Again, as far back as the fifties, when Teays Valley was mentioned it was an area and not Incorporated.
From Scary, to Hurricane was considered Teays Valley.
It's a census designated place.
A census-designated place (CDP)[1][2][3] is a concentration of population defined by the United States Census Bureau for statistical purposes only. CDPs have been used in each decennial census since 1980 as the counterparts of incorporated places,[4] such as self-governing cities, towns, and villages, for the purposes of gathering and correlating statistical data. CDPs are populated areas that generally include one officially designated but currently unincorporated small community, for which the CDP is named, plus surrounding inhabited countryside of varying dimensions and, occasionally, other, smaller unincorporated communities as well. CDPs include small rural communities, colonias located along the U.S. border with Mexico, and unincorporated resort and retirement communities and their environs.[5]
The boundaries of a CDP have no legal status.[1] Thus, they may not always correspond with the local understanding of the area or community with the same name. However, criteria established for the 2010 Census require that a CDP name "be one that is recognized and used in daily communication by the residents of the community" (not "a name developed solely for planning or other purposes") and recommend that a CDP's boundaries be mapped based on the geographic extent associated with inhabitants' regular use of the named place.[5]
Looks like median household income.
I grew up there. Near the dinner theatre. It has never been a city unless that changed recently. To me Teays valley was all that you said plus the area around exit 39. Stonegate and all that development plus North poplar fork road.I had never heard ofit being a separate toen either, just an area of Putnam County. Starts at Scary Creek and runs to at least Huricane. Rich accountants, lawyers, Toyota workers, doctors, etcBut who lives there? Never been there myself, so I'm not familiar with the area.
Its 30 mins from Huntington and Charleston. A lot of professionals from those places live there. A lot of commuters to both areas live there. Over time it has grown quite a bit.But who lives there? Never been there myself, so I'm not familiar with the area.
Jack lived 2 doors down from the Hussons of Hussons Pizza. They are good people.Jack Whitaker lives there, but I'm guessing he's probably broke by now. Not sure though.
The HS nickname was the Bramwell MillionairesBramwell WV once had the largest number of millionaires per capita in the United States.
I dont know who owned the Dairy Queen. I know John Leslie and I think his brother built most of the houses in the valley and Jack at Putnam County bank probably financed half of them but I was a kid most of my life there.BTW, Teays Valley ends at the turn to Cow Creek, at the top of hill where you spot the Hurricane reservoir.
Dave, what's the last name of the family that owns the Dairy Queen at Scott Depot? The oldest girl taught for my Mom for a few years and I got to know the youngest son when he was older and contemplating law school.
That whole area was was nothing but cows, corn, and tobacco when I was a kid. It ought to still be.
I dont remember Steve Bailey but I knew Hodges and Baileys growing up. John Leslie built my folks home in the subdivision between the Fire Dept and the Dinner theatre. I think they paid 18k for it in the late 60s and sold it for around 100k about 15 years ago when they moved to North Carolina. You might have known Bill Russell. I know he bought and sold a ton of property around there over the years.John Leslie married the Hodges' mother. Steve Hodges was already grown when that happened. He built that big place on the rise across from Leff Moore's Mom's farm. When Mrs. Hodges married John Leslie, those guys went from what was looking like a hardscrabble life to a nice future.
Jack Leslie and Steve Hodges were friends of my Dad. The BS got deep quick when they got together.
Dinner theater, eh? Did you ever know Steve Bailey? I haven't seen him since he was going to State and I was at WVU. That was during the last Ice Age. Steve was a good guy.
Be careful what you post. CR89 is taking notes.I dont remember Steve Bailey but I knew Hodges and Baileys growing up.
