Huh? What team was that? I don't recall Damon Bailey ever playing for Team USA, much less be its "star."

I think maybe you've been smoking too much of the the strong stuff.
1999 USA team in the Pan American games in Winnipeg. The team was pretty much thrown together and although they did make a respectable showing, were crushed by Brazil in the final 95-78. The team had guys like Bailey, James Blackwell, Michael Hawkins, Byron Houston, Travis Williams, etc. Not exactly household names. Apparently, you weren't following USA Basketball at the time.

Popovich not believing in an attitude of American superiority in a sport we have dominated for decades is unsurprising. He probably just took the job to scout random foreign players the Spurs can draft in the 2nd round.

Anyone know how this team was put together? I'm guess by the USA Basketball Committee but it seem as if the coach would have had some input. Some decent players but down by our expectations.

Pop is a hypocrite, says players did their best leave them alone yet he is very vocal about his political views and the job the President is doing.

Great post—you hit it on the head!! He’s a liberal piece of crap and should stick to coaching and leave his opinions to himself!
