are the best. Kid has been pitching great in one of the best districts in Tx 6a. Tonight he made a couple mistakes and it cost us. I asked him after the game, after he dominated for 3 inn, what happened in the 4th? He said I tried to pick a kid at 3rd and I went to 3rd with a gb double play back to me, I said were they smart plays? He said no, I said exactly, never try a pick at 3rd and always turn the dp up the middle. With a couple errors from 3b and RF it lead to 5 runs. I like the fact he will talk, and learn. The other team was also chirping and we talked about blocking that **** out, first and foremost, if they don't stop you Drill someone. Be in control. In a loss, still a good learning game. Fun and growing.

It's baseball, its not throwing at their head. Nothing wrong with putting a pitch on someones hip or belly.

Great job of teaching your guys about learning from their mistakes.

I have coached for years...the last thing I want is to put my team in a worse position. I don't tell my kids to cheap shot on the football field and if you get a flag for a personal foul for that **** you are getting yanked and an *** chewing.

If you are in HS and you can't handle some kids talking a bit...that is a "you" problem. You want the other team to stop talking? Get them out.

I don't coach baseball anymore but if I had a kid drill a dude on purpose that kid would be off my team.

And yet you drill other people's wives? Which potentially does more harm?Winking

Honestly I don't think trying to pick the runner off third would be a negative thing as long as pick plays are practiced and you move on if it didn't work. One year I picked off 6 runners on third, if the runner is giving you something, try to take advantage. (note- I had a very deceptive leg kick that allowed this, and it was also practiced daily) I would have asked why he did that and what he saw, and make a correction if needed. The GB double play was an easy one and it's good the kid understood the mistake and was receptive to you talking about it.

As for beaning people, i had a coach who always told me pitching inside to send a message is ok, if it hits them that's ok, but never intentionally hit someone. It doesn't take much to end a players season or career. I watched as my dad was hit in the face and saw the xrays of a shattered orbital bone. Throwing a pitch to hit someone is not an exact science, **** happens and batters react differently, no guarantee you hit someone in the ***. They are kids, not professionals, and even professionals get it wrong

Shoot, last year most of us freaked the **** out when that Buff player twisted AM's leg and hurt his knee...

Hard to argue that drilling a kid with a ball on purpose isn't pretty much the same type of crap as twisting a leg. Both parties know exactly what they are doing.

A teaching moment of drilling another kid with a baseball? Nice... brilliant parenting/coaching right there.

hitting in the ribs or *** with a curveball is not a big deal. JMHO.
Intentionally hitting a batter is BS no matter if it's a curveball or not. Intentionally hitting another player should get you suspended at least for a game, but probably should be more than that.

I didn’t tell him to hit a kid on purpose. So over stated that, more my thinking. He didn’t say anything about them chirping, it was mainly other parents that were ticked. I just talked to him about blocking it out. I can only think of 1 or 2x’s thru college and beyond that someone got one in the thigh from me.
