Is TCU even going to have enough to play next year? I read another DE, Coleman went to Ole Miss.

Texas NIL money for a black QB versus a white wunderkind transfer with Texas roots I'm sure was different. Translation: Texas is racist. I'm not sure the NIL market for other positions at NU is as good as it was for a QB who filled a GAPING hole in our roster. No doubt there was some negative familiarity bias towards Thompson with already being on the roster at UT. Somebody in Nebraska was willing to pony up some money to land a high profile QB and Texas boosters probably didn't think they needed to do as much to keep Thompson.

austin will probably have all 4 major pro sports in town or in vicinity by 2030, or so.
just further competition for advertising/sponsorships, and utx has always had to compete with tx hs football.

UT was 5-7 last year, didn't exactly set the college world on fire.

I think Thompson is a huge upgrade from Martinez, but I'm gonna wait and see if that holds true.

curious why you have to play the race card on this.. I mean do you have any evidence to support those accusations? then I wonder the seriousness of your post when you again make questionable word choices about filling gaping holes (in all caps, no less) on the roster. It looks like you threw out a couple of fishing lines, hoping to hook something?

He may be an upgrade. He also might not be. I am confident the coaching on that side of the ball was heavily upgraded though.

Dramatic upgrade at the position.
I do think he seems much more decisive than the last full time starter at the position..

we also have a much easier schedule setup this year, so that should help the w/l column too.

Everything is mostly all talk between now and August though.. we won't really know until they start playing games.

I'm looking for some kool-aid during the spring game though!

IF you had been paying attention the past 2 months you wouldn't need an explanation.

What Nebraska has been missing for the last few years is a player who's very explosive off the snap of the ball. We haven't had a great pass rusher since Randy Gregory. You need an edge rusher who is fast off the snap and able to get around OT's and put them in a hole from the get go.

I'm not sure this kid is the answer but he seems to be better than anything we currently have at the moment. My hope is we can get a player from the portal who can fill this void and who if given the chance can help our defense where we are sorely lacking. jmo

I know there are posters who believe you can't get a dominate DE from the portal but that couldn't be further from the truth. There are a lot of players sitting behind five star class players who don't want to play mop up duty and will come to programs like Nebraska knowing they can start and get their name out there. I don't think a lot of players want to spend two or three years waiting for an opportunity they want it now.

I don't think transfers from the portal care what part of the country they play at they just want to be the guy. I think the days of telling recruits you won't bring in anyone new to challenge them are over thanks to the portal and that's a great thing imo.

Doubtful on your last sentence. As you say though, see if it holds true. “Huge” upgrade? Huge??

I could be totally wrong, (would actually be the first time), but I think NU may use totally different blocking schemes this year.

I'm hoping Whipple has kind of seen it all. It's similar to when Tenopir and Young were the OL coaches, they were constantly adjusting schemes and still moving the ball against a lot of great defenses.

When he was the head coach at U Mass and they were playing U of Georgia, a coordinator would have to be creative just due to the likely discrepancy of pyhsical talent.

Even though they should be pretty vanilla during the Spring game, I'm still curious to see how much different the offense's philosophy is compared to the first 4 years.

But we have Garrett Nelson.
