He’s making a push. A few of the rookies who started hot have leveled off and hit a bit of a rookie wall. Jayson is getting stronger.
Poor mans Luke Maye...

Last year there was no clear cut stud in the draft (which is why Boston tased back). If I had been a GM I would have taken Tatum or Smith Jr and felt good about either.

He’s been awesome and I’m pumped to see it! Especially since it is him and Kyrie together. You can’t understate the opportunity he was presented with when the horrific injury occurred. In the long run it could end up being a blessing for Boston as it allows Jay to get some phenomenal experience.

As an FYI- keep in mind the pinned thread at the top of this board. Q does a great job of updating all of our guys in the NBA on a nightly basis.

Tatum has been on a mission ever since the end of the NC State game in January when many including myself thought he was forcing things. I think the Rookie of the Year race will come down to Lonzo, Kuzma, Mitchell, Simmons, and Tatum. They are all having fantastic Rookie campaigns.

Kyle Kuzma might have something to say about that. He's behind those two right now, but with Brook Lopez out for a while Kuzma is going to get all the minutes he can handle. Plus, he's a really cool story.

Kuzma is not at the same level as Simmons and Tatum IMO. He can’t make shots when guarded. The other two can create their own. Kuzma gets to the foul line half as often as the other two despite similar minutes.

If Simmons played last year than Tatum would be the clear front-runner.

1. Simmons (he has it locked up unless he gets injured, he's probably gonna make the all-star team)
2. Tatum
3. Donovan Mitchell
4. Kyle Kuzma
5. Dennis Smith Jr...he would have been my preseason pick. Has battled some injuries and his team is terrible.

I think it's fair to say Simmons can be 'one' of the top players in the NBA down the road, but he has quite a ways to go to even climb into the top 10, or hell, the top 20.

Simmons better learn how to shoot a jump shot first before he can be considered one of the best in the league... he’s really good but man he struggles to shoot

Tatum has been amazing but the 3-point % is going to come down at least 10% Maybe 15%. That means he will be shooting 20% or so for a stretch. That will cause a ripple effect on his ability to drive.

I realize he is getting open shots and that his foul shooting suggested he would be able to develop a 3...but regression is coming hard.

He has been very good in other areas...which is very promising

I highly doubt Ben Simmons will ever be widely regarded as the best player in the league. Kevin Durant hasn't even achieved that status. In the last 15 years its been only Kobe and Lebron (and maaaaaybe Steph Curry for a year or 2).

lol, averaging 17ppg 8apg 9rpg. That is almost the triple dub in his first 32 games of his NBA career. 6'10 240lb point guard that demolished KD in the open court with just speed, the tape does not lie he can learn to shoot better. Most of what he does can not be taught it is genetics, time will tell. Top 10 for sure.

It's so good to see not only Tatum but Ingram, Hood, Kyrie, Rivers,JJ and other Dukies making their presence known. Let's not forget Parker as he rehabs and gets ready to come back into the league. He was averaging 20ppg before he went down last year. We are well represented in the league. OFC

Simmons will be a good player in the league not great imo. Embid will make it hard for him to become a number one option unless he leaves philly.

I’d like to see the tape where he destroyed KD in open court because I haven’t heard anyone talk about it.

There are a number of players in the league like stated who he hasn’t come close to touching and all have rings with the exception of Hardin, Westbrook, Anthony, Paul and George. Unless I missed where KD, Lebron, Curry and the rest are retiring in three years and with the players coming into the league it’s hard to support that theory.

Well they have discussed Simmons being the best all-around rookie ever. Ever includes all the above names you mentioned, the fact they even debate that makes him a generational talent like LBJ.

Lebron was way ahead as a rookie and straight from high school and single handily turned the Cavs around, I don't see Simmons anywhere near that level

Completely agree. Kumza is a stud.

With that said Tatum and Kuzma are definitely on the all rookie team but Simmons has rookie of the year wrapped up if he continues to play like he is. That kid is a super star.

Exactly, who did?

I’m sitting here watching NBA countdown and they are talking about how teams are letting him shoot because he’s a driver! He’s only shooting twenty percent and that’s not from three it’s from jumpers.

I would like to see the comments who said he’s the best all around rookie EVER. Last I checked that meant you could shoot, drive, pass, rebound and defend. He can’t shoot at only 20%.
