Doesn't like the Stennis/Hospitality flag.

He needs to grow a pair and lead, but he won't do it.

"Reeves said in a tweet, that while well-intentioned, the latest flag proposal does not meet the threshold."Any similar plan would actually accomplish the exact opposite of our state goal -- it would actually divide our state more," Reeves said. "I don't believe it would satisfy either side of this debate, and I don't think it's a viable alternative."

"The governor has said that he believes Mississippians, rather than legislators, should decide whether the state flag should be changed. The last vote on the state flag issue took place in 2001 when voters decided to keep the flag as it is."

Could have just left it at "Tate is weak."

This really is a **** show for him

I hate it for our state. We can all see where this is leading too...national embarrassment on all levels. Change it now and Tate gets all the credit and a few dejected old white people get to ***** and moan. Leave it up for a vote and it turns into a huge national story. If the public votes to change it, AWESOME. If a new flag gets defeated come November everyone should get ready for some really dark times here. A vote should really scare everyone here.

I simply can not believe he is leading us down this road.

To be clear, the "latest flag proposal" that "does not meet the threshold" is the proposal to have 2 state flags. He made no comment in that article regarding what he thinks of the Stennis Flag itself.

That is a lot more defendable. He is right on that. If he was poo pooing the Stennis flag by itself, it would be awful optics and leadership.

putting it to a vote is disastrous to the state even if the vote is to change it. Headlines for years will be "30% (or whatever percent) of Mississippians still support the Confederacy." The ONLY path here for anyone with a brain is for the legislature to suck it up and grow a pair of balls by just changing it.

Honest question- is there any particular reason that we need to have a replacement ready and waiting prior to the removal of the current flag?

No. None whatsoever. As long as it meets the minimum criteria of “not the current flag” and “not a swatstika”, it will be a massive improvement.

He's stayed the course on what he said while running for office. He said he would not change the flag and if the people wanted to change it he would support the outcome. Is doing what you said you were going to do weak these days?

Too worried about his political future IMO

Fear of changing may dampen his chances for re-election or his aspirations for another political office. Go back to the one before 1865-1894, Magnolia flag. All he and the legislator are doing is further damaging the state and they are either too blind, too stupid or too worried about re-election to do the right thing.

Tate's comment was directed at the idiotic idea of two state flags, not the Stennis flag itself, but he still continues to deflect on the issue. He has got to be the weakest governor Mississippi has had in decades. His leadership skills are abysmal.

ETA: Ditto for Delbert Hoseman and every state legislator fighting to keep the confederate flag. So embarrassing!

I wish they would just remove the flag and then if we vote we are choosing between 2 or 3 new flags

He ought to just use increased economic damage, NCAA and SEC’s enhanced restrictions, etc. as his official rationale for changing his mind on the legislature and him dealing with it. “It just got too big and too damaging. Fast action was needed.” It’s 17ing teed up over the plate for him. Swing the bat, Tater! It’s a hanging curveball now.

If he had one nut, this, along with current US affairs would be the easiest scapegoat ever for him to be able to play both sides of the fence like a true politician.

He also proclaimed April was confederate heritage month at a presser

Think he stays the course on that come April 2021?

He can change course...he's a politician.

I do. He's said many times with social media the people could get enough signatures in a couple of weeks to put it to a vote. I nominate you to get it done. Do I have second?

How is Delbert getting a pass on the flag issue

He knows better. Raised Catholic. Went to Notre Dame. Considers himself the smartest guy in every room. And now he is siding with the ignorant rednecks. But nobody bashes Delbert. They should.

Can Tate actually change the flag or is it up to the Legislature?

Legislation votes on it, Reeves has to sign it. The biggest thing he could do is to keep them in session or.call special sessions until they resolve it and back room deals of course.

Tate could be a vocal proponent and champion of change. He, instead, hides behind political narrative. He could likely executive order the current one off of all state owned flagpoles. That would be a great way to abuse executive power.

Way too much going on there. Flags need to be simple. Basic vexillology: a few colors, no words, shapes simple enough for a kid to draw.

I heard every time the question was asked "why doesn't Delbert run for governor" that Delbert felt the Lt Gov in this state was a stronger position and he could accomplish more with the legislature from that position. Where you at Delbert ?

You meant to say: “If the vote is to Change the flag, it will be by a margin of 50.0000000001 to 49.9999999999.” No way even close to 52 % will vote to change that flag. And then. I can guarantee you that 450,000 homes will then put up a confederate flag or this antiquated State flag to “stick it” in the eyes of the Change Agents.

Still pisses me off that in 1894 they felt the need to incorporate a certain university’s flag in the upper left hand corner, not very inclusive of them.

Precisely. And it wouldn't even be 30% against. More like 45-49% against. If the new flag wins, it'd be razor thin.

I notice that Speaker Gunn's email is no longer posted. I sent it to [email protected], which is similar in construct to all the other legislator's email addresses, and it got kicked back to me. Anyone have a different email addy for Gunn?

The (R) legislature stands behind the “we want our constituents to vote” argument while the (D) sides are actually smart enough to move on and change it.

But on every other issue, the legislature says “we are here to make decisions based on what I assume to be in my constituents best interest”. Almost all are spineless and self interested.
