I can't even imagine what it would be like to cheer for a school that has its stuff together like that.

My best friend, a diehard Longhorn from Austin, seemed convinced that they would anoint Applewhite the heir to the throne. Wow.

but I would think Muschamp >>>>> Applewhite. Hasn't Applewhite only been out of school a few years? How in the world is he remotely ready to be a head coach... cause I think anyone who sets up a coach in waiting is basically saying "we think this guy is ready now and we want to lock him up before anyone else gets him."

Mack is the AD at Texas much like Ron Polk was the AD at MSU when he promised the head job to Raffo. I guess if telling a kid what he wants to hear during the recruiting process works it should work with hiring assistants, right?

Applewhite is a qb coach, long shot from head coach. If he didn't like Saban he probably won't like working for Muschamp as Muschamp is a Saban protege and imo very much like him.

He's not even a coordinator. Kind of a big position with the limited coaching experience he has. Compared to Muschamp he's still in the mail room. No one in their right mind would hand him the keys to the CEO's office.

but now that he is on his own, his d is not even in the top 50 http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/...A_teamtotdef&site=org (i know the big 12 is tough on d's). When Brown retires, the UT job will be the best opening in the country; i don't think they needed to do this.
You don't know what the hell you are talking about. Go over to the stat of scoring defense and notice that the defense he leads only allows 20 points per game. This is against BIG 12 competition where they score a helluva lot of points.

This is against BIG 12 teams that have FOUR in the TOP TEN in scoring offense.

He knows what he is doing period!

Not saying they are not fantastic offenses (they are), but it seems the talent gap in Big 12 offenses and defenses is very wide. Just like the argument is made the State's "elite" defense (per Mike Patrick) is ranked highly because they have played terrible offenses, perhaps the Big 12 offense are reaping the benefits of going up against some less than stellar defenses. Iowa State, A&M, and K State can't stop anyone, much less the Longhorns and Red Raiders of the world. Baylor, Kansas and Colorado aren't much better. There haven't been many intersectional games I can think of by which to gauge this. Texas destroyed Arkansas, but the Hogs D is not good. It will make for an interesting argument leading up to the Florida/Bama vs Tech/Texas/Oklahoma BCS Championship game.

offensive ranking: Florida Atlantic (#40), UTEP (#34), Arkansas (#58), Baylor (#46), Texas A&M (#73), Colorado (#94).

Yeah, no wonder his d isn't in the top 50. And even though UT may have been bad last year on D, they recruit incredible athletes and you would think the wonderkid could turn that around. He's just not that good w/out daddy holding his hand.

That's a slight exaggeration, but the Big 12 is as much a product of ****** defense as it is of great offense. They'll win the Cotton Bowl, but will lose both BCS bowls (I retract that statement if they match up against the ACC or Big East champion).

he should have never gotten a chance to be a head coach much less of UT. He didn't coach under Bill Oliver, Nick Saban, Tuberville, and Mack Brown those guys all suck and have never had good defenses and would not have a flying #@%!'s knowledge of how to run a program so if a guy happened to coach under them he probably would not pick up jack ****. Everywhere Muschamp has gone his defenses have sucked ***, I mean he hasn't been part of a National Championship and has not been part of conference leading defenses at SEC schools and has not led the defense to a better ranking and trunaround from where they were in one year. He is an idiot and is totally out of his legal. PUHLEASE!

Instead they should have hired someone who has a little coordinator experience or some up and comer at Boise or Cincy.
