I don’t think it was the loss that have fans feeling down. I think it’s the fact that we didn’t look like we should have even been on the same court as Duke.

For me, it was how good Duke is. One of the top teams of all time if they continue to play like that. We are not nearly as good. UNLV 91, Georgetown 85, Duke 99, UK 15 all were similar.

It is fascinating and probably unprecedented for a highly touted team to have a season defining game on November 6. And yes, I'm being serious.

Think about it: If the Cats turn out to be mediocre, then all the hype and excitement that built from April through the Bahamas until November 6 will be remembered, and the line set by Tuesday's game will be the narrative for the whole season.

But, if as I believe, the team responds to the humiliation with the resolve to prove they weren't, collectively, a total fraud as preseason No. 1 and many people's pick to win it all, then Tuesday becomes seen as the launching pad to a Final Four or perhaps more. Can you imagine a post-season video that DOESN'T start with a shot of a shocked Cal framed by the scoreboard?

Could be epic. Might as well stick around and see it through.

Well that doesn't make me feel any better.

Of course, we couldn't even win it all with the team you included in that list, which makes it suck even worse.

This is Kentucky. We are not supposed to get beat like that. Losing is losing but there was no pride or effort there. No excuse to not be prepared for this game. Disgrace to the uniform playing like that. Wide open threes, free reign to drive right to the basket. Defense is effort which there wasn’t any to be seen.

I wouldn't minded a close loss at all. The fact that cal hyped up this team all preseason saying we had a bunch of shooters and dawgs on this team is why I'm disappointed. I have yet to see evidence of either after three games. It looked like the first time these guys played together.

It’s very puzzling to say the least. This team has been playing together since August. That’s what is head scratching about Tuesday night.

It looked as if Billy and his parade of Church League players had come back and put on Kentucky uniforms.

We didn’t try to pressure the ball, or even guard anyone for that matter.

No one besides Travis bothered to put a body on a Duke player the entire game.

Shooting? Well, it looked as if we pulled guys out of the stands to compete in a contest to win $1000 worth of groceries from Kroger.

Again, beyond puzzling.

Everybody seems to be forgetting that they were younger than UK.

Extra practices and actual games to try things out and this is what Cal came up with. I'm sorry but saying you have to figure out how you want this team to play.

So what exactly was the purpose of the Bahamas trip and the practices? Good grief man.

Honestly, you’re spot on with your post.

I disagree that this post was spot on, particularly about “disgrace to UK uniform”!

Look, this was an embarrassing and tough loss for this young talented UK team—yes, they are young sophomores and freshmen. Clearly Duke had two very special and dominant young freshmen and it was a “perfect storm” against our team who were clearly overconfident. The first 10 minutes of the game pretty much ensured it was going to be a romp for the Dukies! They started on fire from 3 range, Herro and Quade took terrible shots, PJ was on his heels, and while Ashton started well and looked confident one of our “favorite” refs put him on the bench with 2 ghost foul calls—game over!! Quickley showed it will take an entire season to understand how to play at the college level—and Nick regressed from his early season flashes and showed he simply still has a long way to go to be a top level college center—somehow he’s got to figure out positioning and his “bad” hands!!

We will be fine. Cal will have this team running like a well oil machine. They will learn from this and will get much better. You don't think this hurt the player as much as the fans ? Some of you are acting like the sky is falling. Got to have faith.

I think it's literally crazy that I see all these posters putting this duke team up as one of the all time great teams after just one game. Yes, they are good but come on. They've literally played one game. Hell, a thread about this duke team being better than Kentucky 96. That's absolutely ******* hilarious IMO. I think people forget how great that team truly was.

No doubt in my mind this team will come back from this epic beat down. (Well, almost no doubt...dang that hurt.)
If this team has an ounce of competitive pride, then I think we will see a different attitude from this point on out.............The look and the way they played reminded me of the first time I got on stage to play music......my fingers turned into spaghetti and all of the sudden my banjo had a hundred strings...I did better the next time.........This bunch will do much better the next time out....

Exactly. This UK team and any other team would ALSO get taken to the woodshed. Sometimes a team being SO special and being on their A game makes you look like you're not trying when in reality, they're just that much better than you. Telling you right now if WE had hit 12 3s and them only hit 4, it would've looked a lot different. Hitting 50% from 3 while also having a Kobe 2.0 and a minature LBJ on your team makes it easy to look unstoppable.

I remember Pitino back in 1995 when he asked a group of college students if they'd take 10 very good players (referring to his team) or 5 great players (referring to UNC) before the regional final against the Tar Heels.

Then UNC rolled them by 13 points in the Elite Eight.

However much improvement this UK team makes (and I think it will be significant), Duke will still have the three best players in college ball next March.

Only hope of stopping them: injury or Barrett gets in foul trouble early, taking the team out of their rhythm.

The team I saw Tuesday isn't losing if they're locked in, healthy, and playing without foul trouble.

Totally disagree. There is a reason they hit all those threes. No one was guarding them! There is a reason they were able to go to the rim and get lay up after lay up and dunk after dunk, nobody was guarding them! Not saying we would've won but the margin wouldn't be what it was. You people must have been watching a different game than I was!

Faith doesn't win titles. Having guys like RJ Barrett does, though.

Barrett is the best player to come along in many years. UK just missed on him and Duke got him. We are UK and will be fine.

This boils down to the three Duke freshmen playing unbelievable. NBA players who would all be averaging double figures in the NBA right now. And would have destroyed any other team that night. There isn’t another team like that left on our schedule. Plenty of very good teams but not like Duke. Now does that make me feel better about what I saw in person Tuesday? Hell no it doesn’t. But it also doesn’t mean UK can’t be a factor in March.

Oh yes, the Rhodes vs Stackhouse duel. In Rodrick's mind anyway. The ole phantom technical foul on McCarty game as well.

As far as this duke team goes, I think people are putting far too much stock into this one game. That's jmo.

Already noted. [laughing]

Edit: where in your post did you specify such a list?

I don't guess I did. My point however weak was that the best team doesn't always win the title. This year may be an exception to that. There's a lot of games to be played.

DePaul in 1980-81 was thought by many to be unbeatable for Championship.

Houston in 1983.

Georgetown in 1985.

Illinois in 1989.

UNLV in 1991.

Kansas in 1997.

Kentucky 2015.

Just rambling hoping to add Duke to this. That may not happen. I think a lot of people here are under estimating how good Duke is.

There have been great UK seasons that have had a moment like Tuesday. 1975 IU beat us by 26 early and we beat them in March. 1998 season, Arizona beat us in Maui a lot worse than the final 15 point difference indicated (and a game the fan base wanted bad after the 1997 loss) and that season ended with a title so let's have some perspective.
