I don't think you can take anything from what we saw last night. You already knew Jackson is a freak athlete and that Sarr and Mintz are more developed than the 18 year olds.
Yeah, but a 3pt contest does show who can shoot under pressure. Quickley won the McDonald's 3pt contest and our 3pt contests and that translated to him being our best 3pt shooter. Likewise i think it legitimately showed what Mintz can do.

Mintz also brings that often missing vet experience. I read where he's a full FOUR years older than Askew.

I was Very surprised when Jimmy Joe Dykes (whom I am a big fan of) thought Askew starts over Mintz.

This was after Mintz scorched the nets on pro day and at madness.

Thoughts? I dont see it
Yeah Mintz starts the season 100 percent. Askew should be in HS still

Just stop that foolish switching out front and getting our bigs on a smaller, faster guard, the fouls come from this switching and mis-matches making our guys get out of position.
Please tell Cal. You have so much insight. What pro team do you coach?

Im not sure ive been this excited about a season, not even 14-15. Im not saying this team is near that team, but I cannot wait to see the blue and white running up and down the court. This team is going to be scary good in a shorter time than some of our others. Like yall, I think Sarr and Mintz are the keys. Their leadership is going to be invaluable.

The hope is that Sarr can stay out of foul trouble and play at least 30 minutes a game ... we need him to, if we want to make a deep run. He fouled out of four (4) games last year and had 4 fouls in eleven (11) others. He needs to play solid defense without fouling for us to be good, imho.

That doesn’t bode well then. I saw an article recently that showed SEC refs call an absurdly amount more foul calls than any other league by far. It’s brutal trying to watch a Tuesday night game between S Carolina and whoever they’re playing. It’s like watching a free throw contest. Not that entertaining.

Our cheerleaders are really good
Mintz flat out dusted every freshman in 3pt contest. Hard not to start him. Also he has some hops.
Sarrs looks like he played two years of pro ball compared to rest of our bigs. He's a man.
Everybody says Boston is the real deal, but on the two times I've seen him (last night and Pro night) he looks like a cheetah that's purring and resting and not hunting, but hope to see the hunter come out when it gets real.
Clarke and Mintz are the best camera interviews.
Go Cats!
Boston didn’t look good in the three point contest

I saw too many slip ups from the cheerleading squad tbh. New staff tho so let her recruit and get the right people for her system.
Although I liked their energy and enthusiasm, I thought both mounts and bases were unsteady and need some work. The tumbling was impressive and might be the best I've seen over the years.

Was looking for this type of thread, to specifically praise Mintz. He probably stood out to me the most. I know BJ and Clarke are gonna be great.. but I think Mints and Sarr are gonna be what keeps us going in the early games.

Jacksons size and athleticism probably was the 2nd thing that stood out. I know we need to see him playing an actual game, but I think he could wind up in the lottery next year. I really do.
SPOT ON! Mintz' stroke is impressive and it doesn't hurt that he brings an experienced floor general with a team first mentality and from what I hear, defense isn't too shabby either! If Askew gets more clock than Mintz, then we have an envious problem on our hands! Perhaps the most notable takeaway at this juncture is that there are more than a handful of people that Know Basketball that are more excited now @ the beginning of season about 2 or 3 players other than our Lottery Talent Duo! I do believe that Boston & Clarke are gonna end up being special players. They are elite even by UKs standards. But I echo along the lines of SkiCat14 when I say that early on we will find comfort and confidence in Sarr & Mintz' Talent/Experience/Leadership! They could very well be our 2 best shooters! They both seem to have a calm about their games and make our team considerably better with all they bring! Lastly, I'll just sum up my thoughts on Isaiah by saying that we will have 3 projected Lottery picks come year end. He's damn impressive all around. Freakishly athletic and multidementionally
talented. If you didn't know, he can dunk a little bit! What he brings as an elite shot blocker alone cannot be emphasized enough. Special shot blockers like AD with the rare combination of length/athleticism/quick jumping/timing are once in a decade type... Well it's about that time! I don't post much, but when I do, It's Dos Equis! LMAO

MEGABLUE.....good research there on Sarr’s foul history. That is of concern, especially since I think SEC conference, read refs, call a high number of fouls as compared to many other conferences.

I think teams will go straight at Sarr and try to get him in foul trouble, as they know we need him on the floor to be really good. I am sure Cal and staff know this. I will go out on a limb and say we’ll play more legit zone defense (not token zone) this year to help protect Sarr.
