Safety is the only spot I could see him sticking in the NFL. If the Vikings are keeping him around, I expect him to make their practice squad there. Unlike a previous athletic QB at NU, TA likes to hit.

Scott Frost played safety in the NFL. Tommy was just in the wrong offense. He is what he is. He's got a motor and great lateral movement which will work well for him at safety. Good luck in making the team Tommy!

After 4 years of being banged around, gotta believe he's looking forward to returning the favor. Will be a tough transition, but TA can do it. Maybe he can become a hybrid safety/linebacker as is growing in popularity with today's schemes.

Hopefully he pulls a Brad Smith type deal. He wasn't killer in the NFL but he made it work for awhile, hell he could still be on someones team as far as i know. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong about NFL pensions, but if he plays in three regular season games next year he will be eligible for a pension at age 55 of around 1,400/month in today's dollars. Namely, not adjusted for inflation between when he plays next year and his age 55 (or after). If he makes a roster and sticks four years without ever playing a down, he will receive an additional annuity of $435 X years on roster a month at age 55. So for 4 years he would get $1,740/month and this is adjusted for inflation annually (I think). The two amounts combine. Maybe not a big deal, but $20K a year might help TA live a better life in retirement and is a heck of a pension for four years work. Not only that, but minimum salary is $465 K, which would be $1.8 M over 4 years. If he put some of that in a 401K, which the NFL matches $2 for every $1 put in (up to a point), it could be a sweet gig if you ask me, even if he warms the bench for 4 years.

Money aside, the man is what Nebraska is all about even if he routinely made me crazy and I hope he makes it in the League.

Without TA the past four years, things would have been a lot more dull and several more losses. He is basically all that the Huskers had after Amerr. Make games exciting whether he ran the ball or passed it (some times maddening) he has a will to compete and some skills when he wasn't injured. He just didn't have the passing skills necessary for the MR offense

I always gave the guy crap because he couldn't hit an open receiver to save his life, but he certainly could run a linebacker over when you needed a tough couple yards. He just caught up in the Carl Crawford going pro in baseball problem. Frank Solich even said Lord would have been a safety in the NFL for years if he wasn't needed to play QB at Nebraska. I like the dude. He was a warrior.

Lord got caught up in a time when we still thought of ourselves as elite, but the talent level didn't match what we still thought of ourselves. For everyone who talks about how wonderful it would have been for TA to play in one of our better era's, same goes for Lord. Plus, he had Solich coaching him, and while I liked the guy, he was no T.O.
