We run that little swing pass a lot and I've been critical of 2AM for throwing behind the receiver on that route. But it's getting so common that I'm starting to wonder if he's being coached to throw the ball behind the receiver. Seems to me you get an extra 5 yards at least if you throw the ball in front of the receivers. As it is now the receivers have to stop and turn backwards to catch it then take their chances on juking the corner.

Can anybody think of a reason you intentionally throw behind the receiver on a swing pass ? The only explanation I can think of is that it reduces the chance of northern Illinois type pick 6's.

I can’t imagine they do it on purpose. The one to Stan was really close to being backward.

I’m guessing that the timing is off. They were really bad yesterday it seemed..

The pass has to lead the receiver upfield - if that momentum is stalled in any way by an inaccurate pass those plays are dead. Those are extremely difficult passes to execute. They have to be precise

Do you think he is throwing to where the receiver is supposed to be?

The answer is...that pass is not as easy as it looks.
I think this is the case, plus it's not a strength of his right now. Kind of like the 8 foot jumper from the baseline. Scares the heck out of me every time he throws it.
