Lived here my whole life and never wet a hook in Nantahala. Grew up fishing Tellico and occasionally Snowbird.

I'm like you, I prefer smaller creeks. I've never done a whole lot of big water fishing.
My way is very unconventional, but also makes it easy in big water. In a sense, I’m not really casting across the whole river all the time. I promise, early spring and summer evenings are electric on the Nanty!

Anybody that wants to fish definitely let me know. I’m always up for a good fishing trip.

Head over to Dicks Creek on Junaluska Road. Plenty of spots to park on the side of the road down through there. I like it more than the Nantahala as well, but I also don't own a fly rod over 7'. My friends say my version of fishing requires bushwhacking.

Never used a fly rod in the water. Figure if I wanted to work out, I’d go to the gym. Little ugly stick and an open face is all I need!

I’ve used a fly rod all my life. Been everywhere from Hazel creek to Wilson Creek to Montana to even a creek in the green teams county. Another rod made of metal and a ball have interfered the past few years.

I use fly rod some but not much. And can even tie homemade flies. But I’m not what you say a professional at it by no means. One of my favorite would probably be homemade wasp I made years ago.. But for most I use other type of rods.

Learned how to tie flies from my high school English teacher. Mitchell’s basketball court is named after him. Now he’s a true legend.

Speaking of fishing small streams. I remember fishing one back years ago probably not 20 inches wide in some places and little wider in other places. . Catching wild Brook trout between 6-10 inches long. Lot of fun to catch.
