Here we go!! Rematch of the 2003 State Championship! Lockport broke my heart beating an unstoppable MS team. Never thought we would lose that game. This time around it is a different MS team. Finding ways to win against bigger opponents. Just gritty performances week after week. I have to send a thank you to Palatine for waking this team up!

So tell me who wins this battle and why?

MS4EVER:

I don't think I need to remind you which team I would prefer to win. I just think MS is going to have its hands full against Lockport.

The most significant advantage MS has in this one is Inserra's coaching. I'll never bet against that SOB in any game, ever.

P.S.: Please don't tell Mr. Inserra I referred to him as a SOB. If he does somehow learn I did, please inform him it was delivered in the context he is a tactical and strategic master and not the attempt to impugn his mother.

If Lockport passing can be limited by either weather conditions or Maine South's reservoir of experience in defending the throwing game, it could improve Hawk chances. From what I saw in multiple regular season games, the ball comes out rather quickly in the Porter offense (short and long), so pressure might not necessarily be the whole answer. A sound, proven pass defense scheme with the athletes to play in space and with the ball in the air could be more key. Against some lesser opponents, Lockport ran the ball and Coach Czart is enough of a ground game disciple to have that provision in place. It seemed like not too much has been asked of the Porter OL to date overall between the early release and pass-heavy offense. Playing a clicking Maine South offense will surely be the biggest test for the Lockport defense by a longshot.

I really don't know. MS is masters at staying close enough to strike and winning late when it seemed like the other team was in charge all game. At the same time Porters have been beating up teams that are known for being physical and theres something to be said about that.

After watching Lockport against LA this past weekend, they really are a physical team and will be a formidable opponent. On defense, they are a stop the run first type of team that has excellent gap control and very opportunistic We can attribute the LA loss to injuries, but the reality is yards were going to be tough to come buy running on this team. The nose guard is a physical player who eats up blocks and the ends are all about gap control. On passing plays, they love to get pressure on the QB with blitzes and the occasional stunt up front, with #96 taking away the step up for the QB with his bull rush and swim moves.
Their offense is not overly complicated but they have some excellent ( and large) players who are able to execute. It all starts and ends with their 6'7" QB1. They will max protect. He gets the ball out VERY quickly while seeing the field with his height. His favorite target is the 6"4" wideout who they isolate on big downs. QB1 likes to throw to him over the top, especially between the 20's , fades inside the 30 and back shoulder in the red zone or if they need less than 12 yards. The MS CB1 will need to play the game of his life. The running attack is power, with a fullback or fullback and H back leading the way while the Oline tries to collapse the middle. They will run the occasional RPO to try and keep the defense honest, but QB1 is not a runner and will in all likelihood hand off.
It's a tough team to play against and I see a score in the 20's .
As always, the MS coaches will need to call an outstanding game with a creative game plan. The MS boys will need to be on their A game, minimize the mistakes, pressure QB1 and play what is affectionately called Hawk ball with Swagger.

Couldn't have written it better myself. Well done.
